Pantophlet Lab | Faculty of Health Sciences | Simon Fraser UniversityLocation: Burnaby, British Columbia, CanadaAppointment Type: Full-time, on-siteDuration: 1-year term, with possibility of renewal subject to performance and fundingSalary: CAD $80,000$90,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus extended benefits and statutory entitlements in accordance with SFU policiesThe Pantophlet Lab at Simon Fraser University is hiring a Staff Scientist to contribute to infectious diseases immunology research, with a secondary role supporting key research infrastructure, including flow cytometry and CL3 virology activities.This hybrid position involves approximately 50% hands-on research on grant-funded projects and 50% support of shared research infrastructure that enables immunology and virology research across SFU.Research responsibilitiesDesign, perform, and analyze experiments related to antibody discovery, immunology, and virologyContribute to data analysis, documentation, and internal reportingCollaborate with lab members and external partners on research projectsInfrastructure supportSupport daily operation of the SFU Flow Cytometry Laboratory, including instrument setup, calibration, quality control, and troubleshootingTrain and advise users on experimental design, panel development, data acquisition, and interpretationDevelop, document, and maintain SOPs and best practicesSupport scheduling, user coordination, and data quality assuranceSupport virology experiments conducted in SFU's Containment Level 3 Laboratory, including RTCA-based assays and virus infection studiesAssist with the operation and support of additional platforms such as Octet (BLI) and liquid handling systemsLiaise with vendors and service engineers as neededRequiredBSc or MSc in immunology, cell/molecular biology, or related fieldSubstantial hands-on experience in biomedical research laboratoriesStrong flow cytometry experienceStrong mammalian cell culture expertiseExcellent communication and documentation skillsExcellent organizational and problem-solving skillsPreferred qualificationsExperience in infectious diseases immunology or virologyExperience supporting shared research infrastructure or core facilitiesStrong expertise in flow cytometry, including instrument operation and troubleshootingExperience with RTCA, virology assays, or work in high-containment (CL2+/CL3) environmentsFamiliarity with antibody characterization assays (e.g. BLI/Octet)Familiarity with automation or liquid handling platformsMSc plus 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent academic/industry backgroundDemonstrated interest in training and mentoring researchersEligibilityOnly Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be considered.
