Lansdowne, Interurban, and Camosun Coastal Centre Employee Group Exempt $68,994 to $91,992 per year Work Schedule Monday - Friday (35 hours) Position Type Continuing Full Time Job Summary Reporting to the Director at the Camosun Coastal Centre, the Business Development Specialist will work as a member of the Professional Studies & Industry Training (ProSIT) unit with specific responsibility for the recruitment of students, identifying opportunities and completing market research. The role requires flexibility to support evening and weekend programming and special promotional and community activities as required. Essential Functions Work with the Director to develop new and effective strategies to recruit students and meet the established contribution targets of the ProSIT department. Conduct ongoing evaluation and assessment of local industries and markets, making recommendations to the Director on recruitment opportunities and events. As assigned by the Director, focus on a specific recruitment audience or market with targeted events and relationship-building. Align with the ProSIT strategy and act as first point of contact on behalf of the ProSIT department. Respond to initial contact with prospects by answering initial requests and questions in a timely manner through email, phone and face-to-face. Along with the Director and ProSIT marketing and communications strategist, contribute to the annual plan for recruitment initiatives, including identifying relevant training and education recruitment. Work with the Director to implement open enrollment and cohort recruitment strategies, including advising prospective students on programs, opportunities, facility rentals and services accurately and responsibly. Oversee the tracking and follow-up of ProSIT prospective client leads generated through recruitment activity, in person or electronic communication and the use and management of the ProSIT client management system. Conduct customer and stakeholder needs assessments. Identify potential target markets and clients, creating and maintaining a network of partners/clients in industry, academia and the community. Follow-up with and qualify leads, as well as conduct initial assessment of their requirements. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and provide excellent customer service with orientation to all Camosun College programs and policies. Coordinate ProSIT participation role and representation at open house, on campus, at community information sessions and other local events. Attend networking and industry events, create client presentations and facilitate client meetings. Review BC Bid and other funding sources to determine and develop proposals, writing quotes and project proposals for potential clients. Review and understand Requests for Proposals and similar procurement documents, preparing responding proposal outline documents that meet requirements and deadlines. Prepare professional, competitive proposals and information packages upon receipt of RFPs, when requested. Conduct lessons-learned sessions with members of the proposal team for both won and lost bids. Conduct market research, competitor analysis and client surveys. Utilize Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. Utilize and update social media as requested by the Manager. Other Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications A minimum of 3 years of successful business development experience (preference will be given to work experience in an education setting, preferably corporate or industry-related organization). Valid BC Drivers License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated skills and experience in business development. Excellent written and verbal communicator. Articulate. Well-developed presentation and public speaking skills. Extensive knowledge of local industry. Sensitivity and well-developed understanding of local Indigenous communities. Excellent problem-solving and diplomacy skills. The ability to negotiate new cultures, environments, and situations quickly and with confidence. Ability to work off hours and weekends as required. Demonstrated ability to build credible rapport with ProSIT team. Demonstrated ability to research, evaluate and make recommendations on ProSIT opportunities. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team with colleagues in a complex, busy department constantly undergoing growth and change. Ability to take direction and manage shifting priorities. Highly motivated, well-organized, energetic and goal-oriented. Proven skills in effectively managing multiple tasks, often under pressure and within strict time constraints. Must be self-directed with a high degree of initiative as well as function as a team player. Ability to engender trust and develop effective and respectful relationships. Strategic, critical and analytical thinker with awareness of impact of decisions, including breadth of impact and risk. Demonstrated ability in financial planning and budgeting.
