Job Description General Description The Multimedia Designer is responsible for contributing to the development, planning, design and implementation of marketing materials in support of the department''s marketing and community engagement strategies. Representative Duties & Responsibilities Create print-ready marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, signage, event booths, wall murals, campus graphics etc. for print production. Develop and produce marketing videos for the department involving conducting interviews, taking and editing the videos, collaborating on design of web user experience and publishing to social media channels. Create, edit, modify and update current online and offline marketing materials. Develop mock-ups for offline and online marketing using layouts. Assess needs and work in conjunction with the Marketing Strategist on the creation of new digital marketing campaigns and print ads. Plan and coordinate resources required for the implementation of marketing design communications including production planning, logistics and liaising with vendors. Assist in the development of short and long-term strategies for web communications. Liaise with colleagues within the department, at the University, and at partner organizations to ensure the appropriate application and development of effective marketing and communications initiatives to ensure brand compliance. Evaluate website and update graphic layout and content. Develop and maintain a graphics and video inventory. Update and maintain information in databases. Write custom source code and queries in various computer programming languages. Provide advice and services related to the design, creation, and online delivery of digital media. Proof-read and edit various publications written by other staff members. Identify opportunities for communication and leverage and optimize these opportunities using existing tools. Implement approved upgrades to website related systems. Develop process models to automate and improve existing procedures. Analyze, implement, and utilize digital media equipment, software, and services that meet departmental needs. Design graphic interfaces and interactive media elements including animation. Contribute to social media planning to ensure achievement of the department''s goals. Edit and update illustrations and graphics. Convert and optimize audio and video recordings for use on the web. Create rich dynamic and engaging applications for client and departmental projects involving still photography, video production and e-learning tools. Contribute to key marketing and communications projects that effectively deliver against recruitment and brand awareness goals. Coordinate marketing efforts to ensure that both the online and print presence are aligned. Collect and document user requirements. Identify, evaluate, and recommend emerging digital media technologies and methodologies. Maintain and update services including, but not limited to, wikis, blogs, email platforms, event and registration systems. Prioritize projects, and ensure that requests can be completed. Understand the process flow across various systems utilized in order to troubleshoot issues and develop recommendations for improvement. Remain current with frequent developments in social media platforms, trends in the communication field, and updating skills in a variety of technologies. Supervision Provide direction to others in how to carry out work tasks. Ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures for short-term staff and volunteers. Qualifications 3 year Community College diploma in Design or related field. Requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Effort Physical Effort: A typical work day consists of greater than 3.5 hours of low physical effort for activities such as: Intermittent periods of keyboarding for producing a variety of documents and advertising materials. A typical work day requires up to 2 hours of moderate physical effort for activities such as: Periods of standing during special events and meetings. Lifting and setting up technical equipment as needed. Elements of high physical effort are not a regular feature of this job. Mental Effort: A typical work day occasionally requires routine mental effort for activities such as: Processing a variety of routine documentation such as copy decks and general correspondence. A typical work day consists of up to 3.5 hours of moderate mental effort for activities such as: Liaising with colleagues within DeGroote, at the University, and at partner organizations to ensure the appropriate application and development of effective marketing and communications initiatives.
