Job Description

The Property Maintenance Worker completes repairs and provides preventative and corrective maintenance to all C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. residential and office buildings. The Property Maintenance Worker also coordinates contractors for those duties requiring specialized skills or major equipment installs. The Property Maintenance Worker may support general duties in other C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. rental properties (i.e. leased units with external landlords). This includes unit inspections, unit clean outs, light moving and repair duties and collaboration with direct service staff to assist individuals to retain their housing. Location: Peterborough Status: Full-time Posting# PMW-FT-01-26 Wage: $25.65 to $26.80/hour Application Deadline: 12:00 Noon on January 27, 2026 Key Responsibilities Maintenance, Repairs and Renovations Work independently to complete repairs, corrective and/or preventative maintenance of the exterior and interior of C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. owned apartments and office buildings Ensure that vacant apartments (C.M.H.A. owned) are ready for rental by completing all necessary repairs and renovations Assist with the creation of an inspection schedule and complete unit inspections as needed Follow up on inspections with the relevant people involved e.g. Housing Administration Team, Community Support Workers, landlords, clients, etc. Contribute to the creation of the Long-Term Maintenance plan with the Supervisor of Maintenance and Senior Manager of Supportive Housing and Infrastructure Provide information regarding repairs and cleaning to housing administration for billing to the client Coordinate and supervise third-party contractors Obtain quotes on jobs when required Bed Bug Inspection Duties Understand bed bug tendencies and be able to adequately explain bed bug treatment and prevention to clients Perform pre and post treatment inspections, to identify the presence of bed bugs, determine level of infestation and course of treatment and review efficacy of treatment options Assist the client and the team with preparing units for bed bug treatment and following up after treatment is complete Lawn Care and Property Maintenance Use a lawn mower and other tools to trim grass and edge lawn areas Apply seed, fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides to lawns Maintain and water plants, flower beds, and underlying soil on client lawns Operate backpack blower and gather leaves, hedge trimmings, and debris for removal Use pruners and trimmers to remove shrub and tree overgrowth Plant flowers, shrubs and trees Support staff and clients in assessing properties and identify areas of improvement Interact with clients at each property as required and pass along any concerns and issues to immediate supervisor. Documentation Provide input to daily job schedule and prioritizing Administrative Tasks time sheets, expense claims, mileage, tool inventory, housing module of C.R.M.S., work orders, e-mails, binders Assist with keeping information on properties current Maintain documentation and filing, ensuring that information regarding the properties is accurate and up to date Ensure that all forms and reports are accurate and submitted within established timelines, consistent with Branch policies and procedures Complete client related notes on C.R.M.S. Other Activities Promote goodworking relationships with clients, staff and other service providers Interact and communicate with staff/clients on housing and/or property maintenance issues. Report client observations and/or concerns to support workers as appropriate. Provide coverage for CMHA Cleaning team when needed. Other duties as assigned Performance Management and Professional Development Participate cooperatively in the agency performance management process/system Stay current on relevant legislation and best practices, current research, policies and procedures Participate in ongoing professional development and mandatory training Actively engage and participate in supervisory process Health and Safety Worker Responsibilities Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable regulations and all organizational health and safety requirements and procedures to ensure the health and safety of clients, staff/colleagues, volunteers and students Client Safety Adhere to C.M.H.A. H.K.P.R. client safety programsincluding program policies as well as infection control and prevention procedures. In partnership with clients, family members, and fellow staff, maintain open lines of communication to assist the organization in identifying and achieving quality outcomes for client safety. Report client safety incidents and suggested improvements to supervisor ordelegate. Requirements of the Position A. Education and Training Completion of Community College Diploma and Specialized Trade certificate or equivalent to three (3) academic years (i.e. Building Maintenance, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry). Related and Relevant Experience Mandatory Experience 3 5 years related experience (e.g. property maintenance, building maintenance, mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall) Preferred Experience Lived expertise with a mental health concern or addiction, either personally or with a family member is an asset Non-profit experience considered an asset Intermediate to advanced minus proficiency in French is an asset C. Requirement to have reliable home internet service and the technology to complete work from a remote location, for example computer/laptop, telephone, etc. E.
