Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Shop Mechanic to join our Halifax-based operations at Total Transport & Rigging Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and support equipment. This role requires strong technical expertise, a commitment to safety and quality workmanship, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment. Key Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty tractors, trailers, and related equipment. Utilize OEM and aftermarket diagnostic programs to accurately troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues. Complete preventive maintenance inspections and services in accordance with company and regulatory standards. Accurately document work completed using work order and maintenance management systems. Identify required parts and materials and communicate needs to the Shop Foreman or parts personnel. Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high-quality standard. Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements. Assist with roadside or emergency repairs as required. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop, tools, and work areas. Work collaboratively with the Shop Foreman and other technicians to support workflow efficiency. Participate in on-call or after-hours support when required. Promote a positive, safety-focused, and team-oriented work environment. Qualifications Proven experience in heavy-duty truck and trailer maintenance and repair. Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, air brake, and hydraulic systems. Experience using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and repair procedures. Familiarity with work order systems and maintenance documentation practices. Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and industry best practices. Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Trade certification, Journeyperson, or Red Seal designation is considered an asset (apprentices with relevant experience may be considered). What We Offer Competitive compensation package.
