Job Title Senior Accountant Employee Group Administrator Employee Type Permanent Start Date Monday, January 26, 2026 Job Summary Under the guidance of the Manager, Financial Services, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the reconciliation of the Colleges internal Financial Statements. The Senior Accountant is responsible for reconciling and compiling general ledger accounts. This position also provides administrative support to the Financial Services management team and performs other related accounting duties as required. Duties & Responsibilities Ensure integrity and accuracy of financial reporting at a cost center level, and prepare monthly, quarterly and yearend reconciliations and journals as required. Meet regularly with cost center managers to review internal financial reports and prepare corrections as required. Maintain an effective working relationship with cost center managers to ensure they receive financial information to manage their departments effectively. Work with cost center managers as needed to prepare monthly, quarterly and yearend accruals and deferrals. Liaise with FP&A team to ensure alignment of financial reporting by cost center. Prepare supporting documentation as needed for reports for the Board of Governors and senior management. Ad hoc financial analysis as required. Compilation of General Ledger Accounts Prepare and enter journal entries as required. Analyze and review select general ledger accounts, balance select accounts and correct journal entries as required. Assist with monthend and yearend duties such as tracing of audit samples and responding to auditor queries. Handle enquiries on aspects of the accounting system and resolve problems that may occur. External Audit and Financial Reporting Support preparation of audited financial statements and note disclosures. Support the Financial Services Manager in preparation of audited and unaudited financial statements and reports of the college. Liaise with external auditors as the primary contact for Grant and Project Accounting, maintaining confidentiality of employer information. Preparation of working papers as needed for the auditors. Support as needed in the preparation of the quarterly reporting to the Ministry, Statement of Financial Information, Statistics Canada reports and Canada Revenue Agency reports. Managerial Support Assist with queries and complicated analysis on an asneeded basis. Participate in the relationship with the Colleges auditors, bankers, collection agents, investment advisers, and payment processors. Respond to requests for adhoc reports from both internal and external sources; where appropriate consulting with the Director before. Other Duties Performs other related duties and adhoc projects as required. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelors degree, preferably in business, economics, finance, or accounting. CPA professional accounting designation and membership in good standing with CPABC. Minimally four (4) years of recent relevant experience in a midlevel financial or accounting position in areas of accounting and financial reporting. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Comprehensive knowledge of fullcycle accounting, financial accounting and management, control and reporting procedures, practices and policies; knowledge of PSAB preferred. Knowledge of performance management, internal control systems and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles. Intermediate knowledge of enterprise computerized information systems used in financial and accounting applications (i.e., Workday Finance). Intermediate to advanced proficiency of spreadsheet (i.e., Excel) and database software to compile, quantify and illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, and/or projections. Skills & Abilities Communicate effectively with various groups, both verbally and in writing. Organize and prioritize workload. Work independently and as a member of a team. Maintain sustained attention to detail with high level of accuracy. Problem solve and exercise sound judgement. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Operate related equipment. Maintain confidentiality. Keyboarding skills of minimum 40 wpm. Meet work performance standards set by the College. Interpret and apply College, government, agency and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
