Job Description: Reporting to the Manager, the General Radiography Charge Technologist oversees the General Radiography and Fluoroscopy areas within Medical Imaging performing all clinical duties, executing administrative and operational responsibilities and providing supervisory leadership to clinical teams. This position also fills the roles of X-ray Safety Officer (XSO) for the organization and Student Clinical Coordinator within the Medical Imaging department. Qualifications Education Graduate of a recognized, accredited Radiography education program. Undergraduate degree in related field preferred, post graduate education an asset. Completion of a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) program. Completion of X-ray Safety Officer (XSO) certificate required. Demonstrated ongoing professional development. Preceptor training an asset. Experience At least five (5) years recent experience as a General Radiography technologist in a hospital setting. Demonstrated clinical competency in Fluoroscopy minor procedures. Previous X-ray Safety Officer (XSO) experience an asset. Previous experience in planning and conducting education and training preferred. Proven ability to communicate directly with staff, external and internal partners. Demonstrated leadership skills. Previous leadership in a Charge role or experience leading a team in a project or initiative preferred. Competencies Working knowledge of the standards of practice of related field. Working knowledge of the Regulated Health Professionals Act. Working knowledge of Safety Code 35. Demonstrated ability in initiative/self-management, problem solving, accountability, time management, computer literacy and sound judgement. Proven ability to communicate directly with staff including conflict resolution, instruction and workflow management. Able to identify and recommend process improvement opportunities. Able to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team. Demonstrated interest in continuing education. Recent satisfactory performance appraisal and attendance record, and no recent disciplinary events. Other Registered in good standing with College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO). Membership with Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) preferred. Responsibilities Perform all clinical duties of a General Radiography and Fluoroscopy technologist. Assist in development, maintenance and annual review of policies and procedures and imaging protocol manuals for assigned modality. Monitor, troubleshoot and maintain functionality of equipment, including maintaining an effective quality assurance program with required testing and record keeping. Liaise with vendor applications support and service engineers as required. Serve as X-ray Safety Officer (XSO) by overseeing the X-ray safety program, ensuring compliance of provincial and federal regulations, contributing to relevant policies and procedures, monitoring dosimetry, delivering training and education, maintaining required records and documentation, collaboration with clinical areas to ensure safety and compliance, communication with the Ministry of Labour, investigation of incidents and other tasks as needed. Serve as the Student Clinical Coordinator for MRT(R) clinical placements which includes providing clinical teaching and supervision, creating clinical schedules, completing student assessment and feedback, collaboration with education institutions, identifying knowledge gaps and contributing to improvement plans, maintaining records and documentation, provide professional leadership and mentoring and other tasks as required. Ensure all staff and students are trained in safe operating procedures for equipment. Develop, maintain and oversee orientation and training for new technologists. Monitor ongoing competence of clinical team providing education, training and guidance as needed. Organize, execute and document modality staff meetings and ongoing communication with clinical team. Oversee day to day planning, organizing and coordinating workflow in assigned modality. Provide input into operational budgeting as required. Participate in technical, professional, and quality in-services and education. Participate in procurement of equipment, monitoring of inventory and ordering of supplies. Liaise with bookings office to coordinate patient appointments and booking schedule as necessary. Work with members of other interprofessional care teams to facilitate safe and timely patient care as required. Liaise with modality lead radiologist to create and maintain modality specific protocols, scheduling templates, procedure/billing codes and other tasks as necessary. Represents the modality on committees as required. Identify quality improvement opportunities and participate in departmental initiatives. Participate in recruitment and peer interview process as required. Perform other related duties consistent with the job classification as required.
