About Learning Buddies NetworkThe Learning Buddies Network (LBN) is a local charity that provides free mentoring for elementary students in need of support in reading or math. We do this in partnership with thirteen schools and organizations throughout British Columbia. Recipients are teacher-identified elementary school children who struggle with basic academics (the buddies). Our goal is to empower kids through mentoring to improve their self-esteem and view themselves as capable learners. We recruit and train high school and university students to act as Mentors/Tutors. Website: www.learningbuddiesnetwork.comJob SummaryWe are currently seeking retired or part-time elementary school teachers who are willing to support our organization as Teacher Liaisons for the Winter/Spring 2026 term. For our in-person programs, the Teacher Liaison is needed to support programs in Elementary schools, Community Centres, and Family Centres across the Lower Mainland. This would be a 1-hour 45-minute or 1-hour 15-minute commitment, once or twice per week, per site (i.e., you can work at multiple sites if programs run on different weekdays).Hours are variable depending on commitment. They include teaching times as well as variable meetings throughout the year. A stipend is offered, and a travel allowance is provided for in-person programs.Job Type: Part-timePay: $130 per in-person session. Mileage will be reimbursed at the rate set by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), currently $0.72 per kilometre.Work Location: HybridTeacher Liaison ResponsibilitiesAs Teacher Liaison, you provide professional support to mentors and buddies alike. The successful candidate will report to the Program Co-Chairs and collaborate with the Teacher Liaison team.Duties include:Completing all training and orientation provided by LBNBeing present for the duration of once or twice-weekly sessions 1Moving among each mentor/buddy pair to assist mentors with teaching strategiesProviding help when the buddy is distractedOffering positive suggestions to make the session more efficient and modelling effective ways to help buddies gain understandingYou will also provide positive and constructive feedback to mentors during the closing part of the sessionTo be available for monthly TL meetingCommute to and supervise in-person program site(s)Performs other duties as assignedRequired QualificationsExperience teaching early literacy (Grades K-3) and/or experience teaching supporting numeracy (Grades K-5)At least 2 years of teaching experience full-time (not as TOC)Flexibility for varied work day/week and timesLegally eligible to work in CanadaBC Teaching CertificateBachelors DegreePreferred QualificationsCandidates with an interest in in-person sites in the Lower Mainland will be given preferenceProficient in Google Platforms such as Docs, Sheets, Drive, and CalendarA current Class 5 B.C.
