This position reports to the Construction Manager.What You Will Be Doing?Direct field oversight ensures utility work aligns with construction schedule and avoids costly delays.Reduces risk of utility strikes, service interruptions, and safety incidents by enforcing proper methods and monitoring subcontractors.Provides a single point of contact on site for utility owners and city inspectors, speeding up approvals and resolving conflicts immediately.Supports real-time decision-making during closures, detours, and emergency conditions something office-based staff cannot do.Ensures accurate as-built capture and compliance with permits, protecting against future claims and disputes.Field availability: able to support night/weekend closures, staged traffic flips, and time-sensitive cutovers.Regulatory & permitting: fluency with Municipal Consent (MC), Utility Coordination (UC) processes, TTC/Metrolinx requirements, and lane/sidewalk closure permits.Quality & records: rigorous approach to as-built capture, photo documentation, redlines, test-pit logs, hydrant test sheets, and SUE QA/QC.Direct working relationships with Toronto Water, Toronto Hydro, Enbridge Gas, Bell/Rogers/Telus, and City of Toronto Right-of-Way Management (permits, locates, cut-permits, traffic staging approvals).Risk & claims posture: capable of drafting owner memos/position papers when late information or design changes impact schedule (e.g., CIAR updates, change notices).What We Are Looking For?510 years of direct field experience managing wet (water, storm, sanitary), dry (gas, hydro), and communication (fiber/telecom) utilities.Diploma/Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or equivalent experience.Proven ability to supervise subcontractors performing utility relocations, protection, and tieIns.Strong knowledge of traffic staging and lane closures as they relate to utility work.Skilled in reading and interpreting utility drawings on site and resolving conflicts in real time.Experience coordinating with City inspectors, utility owners, and third-party stakeholders during active construction.Familiarity with emergency response protocols for live utility strikes or unexpected conditions.Demonstrated track record coordinating with utility owners, city staff, designers and Subcontractors to drive approvals and field readiness.Excellent written/verbal communication; able to chair utility coordination meetings and produce action-oriented minutes.Strong knowledge of SUE processes, utility relocation, and permitting.Familiarity with traffic management and staging plans related to utility work.Ability to interpret engineering drawings and utility maps.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Experience on large-scale transit or infrastructure projects.Knowledge of local utility standards and municipal bylaws.Compensation:Successful candidates chosen for this position can expect to earn between $130,000-$180,000.
