Job Description

There are no guaranteed hours with this position. It is a relief / on-call position, which means you are only called when needed. The Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism provides services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). With the support of parents and caregivers, we work to empower each individual to achieve their social, emotional, academic and vocational goals. We are looking for 1-2 individuals who would be interested in relief/casual positions with the organization. There are no guaranteed hours with this position -- relief employees are called to fill in shifts for employees who are ill or have booked time off. Our day/extended program works with up to 18 years of age, and our community inclusion program works with adults who are 19+, so you could be called and asked to work with any of those programs. Educational Requirements: Applicants are required to have completed at least a 1 year post-secondary Certificate with at least 20 hours of child development experience. Examples include Teaching Assistant/Teachers Aide Certification, School and Community Support Certification, Human Services Certification and Early Childhood Education Certification. This certificate must be in a related field due to the programs that we work within. Staff is required to have a valid Emergency First Aid - Community Care (or equivalent). Job Requirements: Part of the position involves transporting the person you are working with to their activities, so a vehicle and valid British Columbia driver''s license is necessary. We will reimburse for differences in insurance and mileage. Staff must be comfortable in the water as swim therapy is an integral part of the goals for many of those we work with at the Centre. This is not a teaching position or a desk job -- our staff works directly with the individuals we serve, so this is a physical position not an administrative position. We will train the successful applicant in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training for the purposes of working with the Centre, and we will also cover the cost of a Criminal Records check for vulnerable youth/adults. The successful applicant is responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate first aid training upon hiring. Duties: Responsible for well-being of the individual in your care including behaviour management, self-care tasks, welfare and safety. Administration of medication if required. Responsible for caring forth programs which facilitate the child''s social, emotional, physical and vocational goals Responsible to communicate to supervisor, parents, caregiver and other professionals. Responsible to document as per standards. May also be responsible to plan activities and document as per standards. Responsible for cleaning and tidying work area. Responsible for Safe Transportation of person served. Other duties as assigned Skills: Strong caregiving skills and a compassionate nature Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively Experience working with individuals with autism is preferred The Centre is open from Monday through Friday. Applicants must be able to work between 8 AM and 5 PM on days scheduled. We are not open evenings or weekends. The focus of this position is on our School Based (5-12 years) and Extended Program (618 years), but there may be the option to work in our Community Inclusion Services for Adults with ASD (19 years and up) if you are looking for the possibility of more hours. All our positions involve working directly with individuals with ASD, and may also involve following individual care plans and behaviour plans. One of the activities we do with the individuals we work with is swim therapy, where the staff is in the water as well as the person(s) they are working with. What are your swimming skills? This position requires you to transport the person(s) you work with in your own vehicle while working (there are reimbursement packages). What type of vehicle do you drive? This position requires you to be available from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM for any days you are scheduled, with the possibility of working extended autism until 5:00 PM. We are not open on weekends.
