Key Responsibilities Leadership & Coordination Lead, schedule, train, mentor, and support Heavy Equipment/Automotive Technicians and apprentices. Coordinate daily work assignments and prioritize workloads to meet operational demands. Support recruitment, performance evaluation, and employee development. Promote a positive, proactive customer service culture within Fleet Services. Technical Expertise Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and complex repairs on County-owned equipment. Complete and evaluate preventative maintenance and repairs. Conduct Commercial Vehicle Inspections (CVI). Operate equipment for diagnostic and testing purposes. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment. Participate in the on-call rotation as required. Mentor journeypersons, apprentices, RAP, and work-experience students. General Responsibilities Provide technical advice and support; participate on interdepartmental teams as required. Assume Emergency Management duties as assigned. Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and the public. Support continuous improvement and a positive County workplace culture. Perform other related duties as assigned. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with National Safety Code Standard 11 and applicable legislation. Promote and model safe work practices. Enforce OH&S policies, procedures, and safe work practices, including toolbox meetings. Comply with County Records Management, ATIA, and POPA requirements, ensuring confidentiality. Qualifications Education & Experience Certified Heavy Equipment Technician. Minimum 5 years of related experience, including some leadership or supervisory experience. Licenses & Certifications Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician or Automotive Technician (required). Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVI) certification (required). Class 5 Driver''s License (required); Class 3 is a strong asset. Additional Requirements Must supply and maintain a personal tool list with current photos of tools and tool chest on file. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Ability to motivate, mentor, and guide others. Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills. Ability to build constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proficient with computer applications and maintenance software. Self-directed and able to work effectively in a team environment. Working Conditions Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. 4:00 p.m. (on-call, emergency, or extended hours may be required). Environment: Shop and field-based; exposure to dust and debris.
