JOB SUMMARY: The Data Hub Specialist is responsible for implementing and supporting the data pipeline for the TPL Data Hub which includes but is not limited to extract, transformation, load, and modelling. The role provides subject matter expertise on data architecture and warehouse management (including, but not limited to data ingestion, integration, testing, and optimization), report and dashboard development, and business intelligence tools and technologies support. In supporting the Data & Analytics program, the Data Hub Specialist works closely with business stakeholders to provide intelligence that allows the Toronto Public Library to be a data-driven organization. DUTIES: Data Development and Maintenance Accountability for the development and maintenance of a data platform located in a cloud environment Implementation of various data models, with associated data marts, data stores and metadata Developing of data warehouse standards, technical architecture, design, development and testing Executing on Data Hub deliverables for enterprise-wide projects with the Enterprise Project Management Office and other ITS teams Designing and implementing redundant systems and procedures for data archiving to ensure effective protection of data assets Data collection and enabling automation of extract, load and transform (ELT) processes which feed into data lake Enhancing availability of the Data Hub to provide business intelligence and advanced analytics Ensuring high levels of compliance with the TPL''s data governance program Developing and optimizing the throughput of the data pipeline including pulling data from APIs Implementing data schemas and ensuring that they are fit for use with business rules and analysis needs Programming, scripting and DAX expressions Supporting data privacy practices by applying an understanding of data de-identification and security rules and roles Addressing incidents in order to restore normal service as quickly as possible to minimize the impact on business operations Reporting, Quality Assurance and Support Monitoring and reporting the performance of Data Hub components against KPIs and take pre-emptive measures to minimize interruptions Coordinating the development and implementation of surrounding toolset integration for reporting and other purposes Identifying opportunities and recommending solutions for improving the overall data quality Participating in project teams to ensure alignment of technical implementation with business current and future needs Supporting current operations as well as new projects by creating process documentation, such as user manuals Conducting research and making recommendations on data warehouse products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts Discovering and documenting data usage and requirements across multiple stakeholder groups Implementing asset management practices to enable accurate account of technology, lifecycle costs, and risks in order to support strategic decision-making and optimize spending and lifecycle management Evaluating and recommending data warehouse components, including hardware, database management systems, extract, load and transform (ELT) software, data mining tools, and meta data management tools Informing the development, maintenance, and evolution of technical roadmaps Producing custom reports and corresponding written analysis Supporting other data collection and reporting tools as required (Note: this may change and be specific to the role and/or technologies when being posted, ex. CheckMarket, MapInfo, Power Apps) Performing other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Completed post-secondary education in the field of Information Technology Four (4) years'' related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Demonstrated experience in design, development, maintenance of Modern Data Architecture: Azure Data Lake Storage Gen 2, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory v2, Azure SQL Service, Azure Data Warehouse (Synapse Analytics) and other Azure services (Logic app, Function app, Key Vault, etc.) Demonstrated experience in the modern data engineering languages: Python (PySpark), Scala, R, SQL, Transact-SQL etc. Experience with data architecture concepts (ETL, ELT, Data Mesh etc.), data modelling methodologies (Kimball, Inmon etc.) and relational database designs (OLTP, 3NF, optimization etc.) Experience with business requirements gathering and analysis Experience with data security, data governance, or master data management (MDM) is an asset Experience in designing business intelligence systems, dashboard reporting, and analytical reporting using Analysis Services and Power BI is an asset Experience with Ataccama ONE is an asset Excellent communication skills, including the ability to express themselves clearly and tailor message to level of technical ability of different audiences Proven ability to think conceptually, understand the big picture and convey clearly to others Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and influence stakeholders without formal management responsibility Demonstrated ability to take initiative, keep current on best practices and knowledge in area of expertise Excellent problem-solving skills involving investigation and creativity, under sustained pressure in a result-oriented team environment Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and manage relationships with multiple stakeholders ACCOMMODATION: We are committed to providing barrier-free and accessible employment practices in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
