Position: Instructional Designer I Location: North Bay, Ontario Reports to: Training Manager Direct Reports: None Purpose of Role The Instructional Designer is accountable for designing and developing innovative learning solutions in support of MacLean products. The role will create engaging, modularized learning solutions, resources, and compelling course content for eLearning and Instructor-led training that is clearly aligned to business outcomes. The Instructional Designer will partner with management, business unit leaders, and subject matter experts to apply tested instructional design theories, practices, and methods to all training offerings. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Write clear, accurate instructional content for training delivery. Keep learning solutions (new and revisions) up to date for accuracy and branding. Proactively assess and identify continuous improvements in course content, organization, and format. Work on multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of development. Escalate project issues in a timely manner to the appropriate internal stakeholders. Work with the department manager to develop and maintain meaningful departmental metrics, schedules, and workflows. Champion training and technical publications process improvement initiatives. Work with management to select and maintain software tools used to create and manage world-class training materials. Be responsible for project management while leading training activities with stakeholders. Examine and adapt strategies, ideas, and tools that help face the challenges and complexities of the teaching and learning processes. Consult with internal clients, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to understand learning needs and define success measures. Maintain and incrementally improve existing training courses and materials. Support the launch of project implementations including tasks not found in a traditional Instructional Designer role (product photography, videography, etc.). Work with department management to develop and maintain online course catalog. Qualifications Education College Diploma or University Degree is preferred. Adult Learning & Education or Psychology is a definite asset. Experience Two years of experience in technical writing is required. Experience in designing, developing, and managing blended learning programs for internal and/or external clients is preferred. Experience in writing Operator''s and Maintenance Manuals and Standard Operating Procedures is a definite asset. Experience with heavy manufacturing within a mining environment is an asset. Project Management experience is an asset. Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior management. Experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS) is an asset. Knowledge and application of adult learning principles, training needs analysis, instructional design, information design, training methodologies, learning technologies, and evaluation strategies. Course development software experience is required (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Camtasia, or PowerPoint). Experience working with Microsoft Office. Research and development, from reading research articles, investigating and testing educational tools, and conducting research studies. This is an English-language position. Bilingualism (French or Spanish) would be a definite asset. Working Conditions This position is full time in - office at our Sudbury location. Office environment with access to manufacturing and underground facilities as required. Travel to worksites and company locations is required. May be exposed to noise levels that are distracting.
