How will you make your mark? About the Role Vacancy Status: This posting is for a current seasonal vacancy to begin Summer 2026. Reporting to the Manager, Construction & Inspections, the Student Construction Inspector will assist the Construction Inspectors in monitoring and inspecting construction projects to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, municipal guidelines, and safety standards. This opportunity provides hands-on experience in civil engineering and construction inspection, supporting quality assurance and project documentation under the guidance of senior staff, while gaining exposure to construction standards, inspection techniques, and project management practices. Key Responsibilities Assisting with routine inspections of civil works such as roads, sidewalks, utilities, and drainage systems. Assisting with the verification of materials and workmanship in order to meet project specifications and standards. Assisting with the review of assessments of existing infrastructure to support the capital forecast. Supporting the Inspectors with maintaining accurate daily logs of site activities, including weather conditions, work progress, and any issues observed. Assisting the Inspectors with preparing inspection reports and submitting findings to the senior construction inspector or project manager. Ensuring adherence to safety regulations and environmental requirements on-site and reporting any non-conformance or hazards promptly. Communicating effectively with contractors, engineers, and project stakeholders as required. Supporting resolution of minor site issues under the supervision of construction staff. Coordinating material testing between the contractor and subconsultants as required. Participating in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Performing other duties as assigned, including those specific to the department. What you bring Candidates are being hired through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program and must be available to work from May 4, 2026, to August 28, 2026. Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, in accordance with the CSJ Program and job requirements. Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or Construction Technology program. Must have a valid Ontario Driver''s License Class ''G'' and access to a reliable vehicle. Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn. Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada. What we offer Hourly Rate: $22.50 per hour (2026 rate) Hours of work: 35 hours per week The Municipality of Clarington offers flexible work arrangements for eligible roles, where employees are empowered to do their best work in the way that works for them.
