About UVic CfAR The University of Victoria''s Center for Aerospace Research (UVic CfAR) has become a Canadian leader in Unmanned Air Systems research, design, integration, and testing. Our team of engineers, post-docs, graduate, and co-op students focus on creating cutting-edge designs from initial concepts to flight operations.We are located in beautiful Sidney, BC. Description The selected applicant will work as a part of the Electrical and Avionics team to research, design, test, and integrate avionics systems for use in and with UAVs. This includes but is not limited to the following tasks: Design, develop, and integrate electrical systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and ground stations, including power distribution, data acquisition, sensor and instrumentation systems, flight-critical safety systems, and embedded platforms Evaluate, configure, and qualify commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electrical components for use in aerospace and mission-critical applications Perform electrical system characterization, validation, and troubleshooting Manufacture and assemble flight and ground electrical hardware, including wiring harnesses, custom PCBs, and associated electrical assemblies Integrate electrical subsystems into airframes and ground systems, supporting system-level integration, verification, and testing Develop, implement, and maintain software tools for automated testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation, and post-test data analysis Maintain technical documentation, including design records, test procedures, and journey/maintenance logs Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, software, and flight-test engineers to support system integration - Mentor and train co-op students - Analyze flight and ground test data to identify performance improvements, enhance system robustness, and support iterative design optimization If you are interested in performing flight testing field work outside of Victoria for 2-week periods at a time, please indicate so in your cover letter. Qualifications REQUIRED: Education: Minimum BASc Electrical/Computer Engineering, Electrical Technologist Diploma, or related Job Type: Full-time starting immediately Experience with electronics and circuit theory Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout/routing Strong cabling/wire harnessing and SMT PCB assembly skills Experience with high-reliability soldering and crimping Experience in system testing and troubleshooting using test equipment (Logic analyzers, Oscilloscopes, etc.) Experience with hardware protocols such as CAN, I2C, RS-232 Experience with embedded systems design Familiarity with coding languages C/C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink Strong verbal and written communication skills Commute daily to Sidney office PREFERRED: Experience with RF design Familiarity with OTS/amateur radios and RF theory Familiarity with PX4 open-source autopilot Experience with RC models, specifically RC/FPV aircraft Advanced RPAS license holder Knowledge of industry standards (ARINC, IEEE, ISO etc.) Knowledge of RTOS Application Instructions Applicants must submit their cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript via email to Incomplete applications will not be considered due to volume of applications received.
