The Nursing Resource Unit (NRU) at CAMH is an internal staffing team comprised of Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Program Assistants, who deliver exceptional client care across all inpatient units at CAMH, in the event of strategically planned and unplanned staff absences. Position Description Reporting to the NRU Clinical Manager and Clinical Operations Coordination Leader, the four (4) part-time, permanent Program Assistants will be on-boarded and crosstrained to work across all inpatient clinical areas, including: acute, forensics, rehab, and specialty areas (i.e., geriatrics, concurrent youth, medical withdrawal, and emergency). As a member of an interprofessional team, the successful applicant(s) will: - Work with clients from diverse backgrounds experiencing a variety of mental health and addiction challenges - Contribute to the safety, organization, and optimal function of your assigned unit, working under the direction of the clinical staff - Participate in the supportive interaction and monitoring of clients and provide them with direct care and support - Accompany clients on- and offsite for transfers, appointments, medical clearance, and programming - Facilitate client participation in group and individual activities - Communicate, both verbally and in writing, about behavioural observations, assessments, and clients response to care interventions - Support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. The successful applicant will work a rotating schedule that includes 12-hour days (0730-1930), 12-hour nights (1930-0730), and weekends, at the Queen Street Site. - Secondary School diploma (or equivalent) - Personal Care Worker Certificate or in the process of pursuing a certificate/diploma/degree in a health-related discipline - Able to work with people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds - Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in an interprofessional team - Able to reflect on ones own biases and demonstrate empathy for clients - Strong organizational, problemsolving, computer, and communication skills - Assets include: Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language, CPR certification, First Aid training, and familiarity with clinical care and issues specific to mental health and/or addiction settings CAMH is a fully affiliated teaching hospital and research institute of the University of Toronto.
