This position is available until approximately November 2026 or until the return of the incumbent. Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour. The role is designed to provide direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the intra-, postpartum and highrisk antepartum periods by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care in a perinatal clinical unit. Detailed Overview In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the Mission and Values of Fraser Health, and working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team in the provision of personcentered care, the Registered Nurse, Perinatal provides direct patient care to childbearing patients and their families during the intra, postpartum and highrisk antepartum periods by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care to patients in a perinatal clinical unit. Responsibilities Conduct a comprehensive nursing assessment of the patient and unborn baby on admission and at regular intervals, allocates patient to appropriate care area within the Maternal Program, assesses patient using observation, communication, data review and physical assessment, initiates emergency care for the patient/fetus/newborn in crisis, and transfers patient/newborn to the most appropriate care area. Collaborate with patients and their families/support persons, physicians and interprofessional care team members in developing, implementing and modifying optimal patient and unborn baby care plans, establishing therapeutic relationships through empathy, trust and respect, and advocating for patient rights, privacy, dignity and autonomy. Participate in the care and discharge planning process for patients on admission, ensuring care plans are established, implemented, and updated effectively, and collaborating with the interprofessional team and Patient Care Coordinator on issues affecting care/discharge plans. Coordinate nursing care for the patient and make referrals to the interprofessional care team according to established protocols and practice standards. Collaborate with physicians, Patient Care Coordinators, Clinical Nurse Educators and other health care professionals/providers as required to identify and resolve issues, changes in patient condition, and adjustments to care plans. Teach patients and families/support persons about health promotion regarding pregnancy, birth experience, postpartum, newborn care and parenting; assess learning needs and provide information and demonstrations to support selfcare and the discharge plan. Plan and discuss referral information with patient and families/support persons and initiate referrals to appropriate health care/community agencies in collaboration with the interprofessional care team. Document assessments, nursing diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures. Participate in and attend inservices and other educational programs; identify own learning goals and maintain and update current clinical competence and knowledge within the area of practice. Act as a preceptor or mentor to guide clinical experience of assigned new nursing staff and students; promote the philosophy of familycentered care and participate in orientation. Provide feedback to the Manager/delegate on the effectiveness of patient care programs, policy/clinical decision support tools and equipment. Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities; identify patient care issues, collect data, provide input/recommendations and promote changes to practices and protocols. Report safety and risk concerns through the Patient Safety Learning System. Participate on designated program and professional committees, care conferences and councils as assigned. Participate in research and special projects in collaboration with interprofessional team members; collect and/or interpret data, and provide input for further analysis as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Graduate from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). One (1) years recent, related clinical perinatal nursing experience in the designated clinical area and completion of postgraduate basic coursework and/or certification in perinatal nursing applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current Basic Rescuer (LevelC) and Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) Certificates. Skills and Abilities Complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and apply maternal/fetal/newborn theory and expertise to provide nursing care through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions. Recognize acuity changes. Use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support nursing decisions and actions with relevant researchbased evidence. Communicate effectively with patients, families/support persons, the public, medical staff and interprofessional team using verbal, written and electronic communication means. Promote personcentered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/support persons, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy. Integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problemsolve effectively. Work independently and collaborate with and promote cooperation among members of the interprofessional care team. Teach and instruct patients and families/support persons on topics essential to their health care and wellbeing. Organize and prioritize work in a continuously changing environment. Deal with and promote change. Operate related equipment including relevant computer applications. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
