Lead Instructor, Psychiatric Nursing Program Reporting directly to the Senior Health Care Programs, the Lead Instructor is primarily responsible for providing instruction in the Psychiatric Nursing Diploma program and also serves as the primary program contact and mentor for instructors in the program. While instructional responsibilities will vary, based on individual expertise and evolving program needs, position will serve as the initial point of contact for the program. Working collaboratively with the coordinator, the role includes organizing and delivering curriculum to achieve established learning objectives, engaging with students to support a successful learning experience. The Lead Instructor holds responsibility for creating schedules and identifying instructional coverage. Primary responsibilities Curriculum and instruction: Accesses and prepares course outlines and classroom instruction content Identifies resources required for program delivery Delivers classroom instruction consistent with the established curriculum, instructional plans, learning outcomes and objectives Utilizes adult education principles, methodologies and techniques including flexible approaches to address divergent learning needs Implements student examinations and learning assessments that meet and follow both curriculum and college guidelines and standards Integrates references to life and cultural experiences relevant to the subject matter to enhance students comprehension and learning Creates an optimum learning environment within the classroom Establishes, communicates, and implements classroom participation and activity protocols, procedures, and expectations Engages with, motivates, and provides support to students to contribute to a positive and successful learning experience Identifies student learning issues and refers students to, or consults with professional assistance Implements student learning assistance plans as may be required Counsels students on classroom participation and student techniques to enhance their learning ability and program success Monitors and provides feedback on student classroom participation and learning progress Records and submits student assessment and evaluation on all tests, assignments and projects Administers the College attendance policy including daily record keeping and reporting of student attendance College leadership: Assumes responsibilities outside of the classroom by participating in college projects, programs, and activities Works collaboratively with: the Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Sr. Health Care Program Coordinator to create the course content schedules for the three-year program the coordinator to ensure instructional coverage for all classes Saskatchewan Polytechnic to monitor quality assurance for courses Mentors staff within the Psychiatric Nursing program Liaises with the Student Services Department to support student success Performs other responsibilities as may be assigned to contribute to successful student learning and positive participation experience in college programs and activities. Teaching Assignments: (may include, but not be limited to) Theory instruction Instructing and/or supervising student during Clinical Practice Education Learning Qualifications and experience (subject to approval by Saskatchewan Polytechnic): Baccalaureate Degree in Psychiatric Nursing, Nursing, or Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing with a degree in a related field Eligibility for registration with the college of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Saskatchewan and/or the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan Minimum of three years of recent and relevant clinical/teaching experience with a focus on mental health Valid drivers license as travel is a required element in the supervision of students A satisfactory criminal records check, with a vulnerable sector search is a condition of employment with North West College Professional skills and abilities: Teaching: Apply the principles, methodologies, and technique of adult education Identify student learning challenges and difficulties Organize, prepare and present information in a concise and complete manner allowing others to understand and comprehend the course material and learning objectives to achieve desired learning Engage with students in a positive manner that assists and motivates them and contribute to their learning success Create and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with all educational stakeholders including staff, partners and clients Work within a multicultural environment, promoting and encouraging diversity, individual dignity, and mutual respect Analyze, conceptualize, and synthesize student needs and adapt teaching styles when necessary Manage classroom behaviour, encouraging and managing discussion groups with differing language skills, opinions, experience, and backgrounds Administrative: Plan, organize, schedule and prioritize work an activities and perform effective taking into account interruptions, conflicting and changing priorities and demands and application of deadlines Work independently as well as collaboratively with the variety of individual include colleagues, managers, and students to establish and maintain a positive working relationship to achieve operational and program effectiveness Utilize standard office software including work process, email, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and the internet Operate standard office and classroom equipment Establish and maintain records appropriately to support program operational and information needs.
