Roles and Responsibilities MYP Careers Advising - Plan the Career Education curriculum for students in Grades 69 for Advisory; - Teach the Grade 10 Career Life Education course; - Support students in Grades 610 through Advisory classes, guiding course selection, post-secondary planning, and career exploration; - Meet with MYP students and parents to provide personalized guidance on career planning, course selection, and university pathways; - Collaborate with the University Counselling team to ensure a cohesive, aligned, and supportive program across Grades 612; - Ensure that students have broad opportunity to visit and interact with universities, representatives and career options; Program Development - Develop and maintain resources for students, including publications, guidance materials, and online tools; - Assist in the maintenance and development of appropriate resources (visual, web, print) for students and parents, including publications and materials; - Build and maintain expertise through ongoing engagement with post-secondary institutions and employers, enhancing the schools career and university counselling services; - Provide students and parents with informed guidance on course selection to support long-term academic and career goals; - Develop further opportunities for Middle and Senior School students to explore and experience career opportunities; - Contribute to the development and growth of the schools Student Support Services; Administrative - Support student and teacher use of MyBlueprint and other information systems; - Collect and assess documentation related to external credits for graduation where needed; - Attend post-secondary update sessions; - Represent Southpointe Academy at various functions during and after regular school hours; - Maintain relationships with counselling counterparts at independent schools (AAC); - Attend conferences and workshops for professional development; Qualifications and Education Requirements - Valid BC Teaching Certificate or Independent School Teaching Certificate, (or the ability to obtain a Certificate); - Appropriate professional qualifications for university and careers counselling; - Strong communication skills, written and oral; - Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to establish connections, build trust and rapport with students and parents; - Experience working in a technology-rich environment; - Experience working with the IB Middle Years and IB Diploma Programmes; - Current knowledge of approaches to careers counselling, including expertise in work placements and Canadian, US and UK university admissions procedures; - Desire to help students achieve personal success; - Excellent professionalism, a proven work ethic, and a high level of integrity; - High level of initiative, energy and motivation; Preferences - Valid First Aid Certificate Salary - Southpointe's teacher salary grid will be 6% above the Delta public school salary grid at all levels of the grid; - The annual salary for this position at Southpointe Academy during the 2025-2026 school year ranges from $68,422 to $116,091 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid; - Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
