The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) supports wildfire management agencies across Canada by coordinating resource sharing, strengthening national collaboration, and advancing programs and standards that improve Canadas collective wildfire response and resilience. FireSmart Canada, a program under CIFFC, empowers communities and individuals to take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk through education, resources, and best practices for prevention and mitigation.The OpportunityThe Wildfire Resilience Manager is CIFFCs technical and strategic lead for wildfire risk, spatial analytics, and resilience measurement. The role leads the design and implementation of a Canadian Wildfire Resilience Index, applying advanced GIS, spatial analysis, and wildfire risk modelling to inform national prevention, mitigation, and policy decisions. This position requires deep expertise in geospatial analysis, wildfire risk frameworks, and data integration, combined with the ability to translate complex spatial intelligence into actionable insights for decision-makers across governments, Indigenous partners, and the wildfire sector. This role is best suited to a candidate who enjoys working at the intersection of data, policy, and practice; is comfortable navigating uncertainty and imperfect data; and is motivated by building national-scale tools that support real-world wildfire risk reduction.Key ResponsibilitiesServe as CIFFCs lead to coordinate and advance the development of a Canadian Wildfire Resilience Index.Lead advanced spatial analysis and geospatial modeling related to wildfire hazard, exposure, vulnerability, and resilience at multiple scales (community, regional, national).Design, develop, and maintain GIS workflows, spatial datasets, and analytical models to support wildfire risk and resilience assessments.Integrate remote sensing, fire behavior data, land-use, climate, and socio-economic datasets into composite spatial indices.Conduct spatial scenario analysis to assess wildfire risk trends, mitigation impacts, and policy trade-offs.Establish data standards, metadata, and reproducible analytical workflows for national-scale wildfire resilience analysis.Develop and maintain spatial data layers and mapping products to support risk and resilience analysis.Integrate wildfire risk assessments into CIFFC prevention and mitigation programming and policy development.Apply equity and Indigenous data governance principles in all aspects of data collection, analysis, and reporting.Build and maintain partnerships with wildland fire agencies, First Nations, local authorities, insurers, and other stakeholders to support project objectives.Translate technical analytics into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences through reports, dashboards, and maps.Develop and implement comprehensive project charters and work plans, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies.Manage project budgets and contractor activities, including forecasting, cost tracking, financial reporting, scoping, onboarding, quality assurance, and payment approvals.Represent CIFFC by preparing and presenting information and advice to internal and external bodies, including committees, agencies, and interactive forums.Ensure compliance with organizational policies and formal agreements.Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Prevention and Mitigation.QualificationsDegree in Business Administration, Management, Forestry, or a related discipline.Minimum five (5) years of project management experience in a corporate or government environment.Advanced proficiency in GIS software and spatial analysis tools (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, QGIS) and experience with spatial databases, geoprocessing workflows, and data visualization tools.Familiarity with statistical or analytical tools (e.g., R, Python) and composite index development is an asset.Strong understanding of wildfire risk systems and risk assessment frameworks, including hazard, exposure, vulnerability, and socio-economic indicators.Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Strong communication skills; bilingualism in English and French is an asset.Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and work independently while maintaining confidentiality.Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.Key CompetenciesIntegrity & Trust - Honest, reliable, follows through.Client Focus - Understands and meets client needs, listens actively, builds trust and respect, and treats colleagues as internal clients.Problem Solving - Analyzes complex issues, separates facts from opinions, evaluates risks, identifies root causes, and generates practical solutions.Quality of Work - Pays attention to detail, ensures accuracy, delivers high-quality outcomes, and takes ownership of errors.Adaptability - Adapts readily to change, remains open to differing perspectives, and adjusts behaviours and approaches as needed.Drive for Results - Committed to achieving objectives, overcomes obstacles, sets challenging goals, and follows through on commitments.Planning & Organizing - Establishes priorities, sets clear goals, coordinates work effectively, and ensures alignment with organizational objectives.
