Salary The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42 - $59.52 / hour Job Summary We are hiring for a Casual Registered Nurse, Surgical Services - Operating Room to join our team at Peace Arch Hospital located in White Rock, B.C. Detailed Overview In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice and the mission and values of Fraser Health, the Registered Nurse (RN), O.R. provides direct nursing care to patients within the Operating Room (OR) according to established standards and administrative policies and procedures. The RN assesses patients physical and psychosocial needs, identifies problems, plans, implements, documents, evaluates and coordinates nursing care of assigned patients and performs scrubbing and circulating duties. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care of patients. 2. Receives and admits patients to the OR and coordinates nursing care according to physician and anaesthetist orders. 3. Participates in identifying and reducing risk factors that may impact the patient and/or health care team. 4. Modifies care as needs change, including immediate treatment such as applying noninvasive monitoring devices. 5. Obtains, checks, sets up and positions supplies, instruments and equipment required for surgery ensuring that instruments and equipment are in working order. 6. Follows standardized count policy and provides appropriate documentation. 7. Performs scrub and circulation duties within the OR according to prescribed procedures and protocols. 8. Collects information from a variety of sources using observation, communication and physical assessment skills to enable appropriate nursing care. 9. Participates in quality improvement activities and research by identifying patient care issues and collecting data. 10. Participates as an active member on nursing and hospital committees and councils for improvement of patient care and/or work environment. 11. Participates in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff and students by providing information and acting as a preceptor and mentor as appropriate. 12. Participates in the evaluation of patient care programs, techniques, standards and procedures by providing feedback about effectiveness and patient care outcomes. 13. Maintains a safe environment for patients, families and staff by adhering to established safety and emergency practices and procedures. 14. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience - Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. - Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM. - One year of recent relevant clinical nursing experience in the designated clinical area, and completion of postgraduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities - Clinical proficiency in the designated clinical area. - Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions. - Ability to determine and deal with emergency situations. - Ability to recognize acuity changes. - Ability to use factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions with evidencebased practice. - Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff and the interprofessional team using verbal, written and electronic applications. - Ability to promote personcentered care that demonstrates empathy, sensitivity to diverse cultures and patient advocacy. - Ability to integrate and evaluate data from multiple sources to problemsolve effectively. - Ability to organize and prioritize work. - Ability to collaborate and promote cooperation among interprofessional team members. - Ability to operate related equipment and relevant computer applications. - Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
