Parks & Facilities Operator I Permanent, Full-time Position Union - CUPE The Township of Springwater, located in the heart of Simcoe County, is a mixed urban/rural municipality with growing urban settlements and a prosperous agricultural sector. The municipality is currently recruiting for one (1) new permanent, full-time position of Parks & Facilities Operator I. Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Parks, the Parks and Facilities Operator I is responsible for performing routine maintenance, emergency maintenance, operational tasks, issues and requests in the Township''s Parks, trails, open spaces and Facilities, including park, sports field, grass and horticulture maintenance duties. This position plays and integral role in performing routine maintenance and operational tasks within the Township parks, sports fields and amenities in order to provide a safe, clean and enjoyable environment. Position Responsibilities The usual responsibilities of the position are: Inspect and document turf, vegetation, amenities, trails, and open spaces for pests, weeds, uneven surfaces, vandalism, hazards, and signage needs; address issues when resourced or escalate to the Parks Supervisor. Maintain turf: fertilize and amend soils, overseed, aerate, mow/trim, and remove clippings and debris. Perform horticulture and tree work: trim/prune, remove small trees/roots, and manage brush as required. Maintain sports fields and amenities (ball diamonds, tennis/sport courts, soccer fields, playgrounds, pavilions, splash pads): cut and groom turf/surfaces; till, groom, and sift sand; replace fiber mulch/sand; paint play-court lines. Clean and repair assets: sweep/power-wash surfaces; remove graffiti; repair/replace/post signage; perform minor painting and surface repairs; repair boards/structures; clean public change rooms. Support Pest Management Program: monitor for infestations, notify supervisor, determine remedies, and apply treatments. Maintain furnishings and site elements: benches, tables, bike racks, flagpoles, fencing, and signage. Assist with minor facility upkeep: painting, fence and plumbing repairs, furnace and dehumidifier checks, lighting, alarms, exit hardware, and general grounds clean-up. Operate vehicles/equipment (pickups, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, chippers, cube vans, automated work platforms, power/hand tools) and perform basic preventative maintenance. Monitor outdoor facility use/conditions and report issues. Support events: deliver/install/assemble/remove barricades, fencing, tables, garbage cans; pick up debris. Plow with pickup, sand/salt, and handshovel Township parks, parking lots, sidewalks, walkways, and emergency exits; complete and file safety inspections. Monitor outdoor rinks; complete minor repairs and escalate concerns. Conduct weekly/monthly winter checks of parks/facilities and rinks for safe access and hazards; support winter events as needed (deliver/install/remove materials; debris pickup). Follow safe operating procedures and Township policies to maintain facility quality and safety. Receive and resolve or redirect public/staff inquiries and complaints; inform/escalate to Parks Supervisor as required. Respond to onsite incidents/emergencies; provide Standard First Aid/CPR/AED and complete incident reports. Maintain logs, inspection records, and reports (paper and workorder system). Other related duties; support other service areas as required. Qualifications and Experience Completion of a Secondary School Diploma. Minimum one (1) to five (5) years'' related experience in, parks and performing the major responsibilities listed above. Demonstrated experience in maintaining, inspecting and repairing, turf, park and trail surfaces, parks maintenance and/or recreation and facilities. Experience with snow removal, using medium duty ton to 2-ton plow trucks, tractors and snowblowers. Ability to operate a range of equipment (grass cutters/tractors, chainsaws, 2ton trucks, weed trimmers, loaders, balldiamond groomers, small tools). Knowledge of OHSA; parks equipment and trail maintenance standards; vehicle maintenance and safe operation. Knowledge of preventative maintenance and operation of recreation facilities and basic knowledge of maintenance of plumbing and heating systems inspection/repair. Basic verbal communication, written communication, customer service, teamwork, attention to detail, problem solving and time management skills. Basic computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, and Word), work order management systems and program for data entry. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays and availability to work outside of scheduled work hours to perform standby/on-call or emergency response duties. A Valid Class G driver''s license in good standing with a satisfactory driving record; Class ''A'' restricted license preferred. Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certifications. Due to the responsibilities of the position, a police information check satisfactory to the Township of Springwater is required. Rate of Pay The Township of Springwater offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive employee benefit plan for this position, including participation in the OMERS pension plan. Compensation for this position is $30.16 to $34.08 per hour (2026 rate) as per the Collective Agreement. Hours of Work This position will work 40 hours per week; however, extended hours or additional hours on a call-in basis are required in inclement weather/road conditions. In addition, this position may be required to work early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays or on a rotational basis and be on call in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
