This is a rare opportunity for an experienced architect to step into a Principal-level leadership role, serve as Architect of Record, and hold 51% ownership of the firm while maintaining full professional independence as required by the Architects Act and OAA Code of Ethics. Client Details A newly established architectural practice-fully registered with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and holding a Certificate of Practice-is seeking a visionary Principal Architect to lead its growth, shape its design direction, and oversee all architectural work from concept through construction. Description Strategic Leadership Define architectural direction, design standards, and longterm practice strategy. Ensure alignment between architectural solutions and organizational objectives. Recommend new technologies and improvements to existing systems. Project Oversight Lead architectural design and development for major projects from concept to construction. Ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and quality expectations. Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules. Manage daytoday operations and deliverables of the architectural practice. Team Leadership & Collaboration Mentor architects, designers, and technologists to build strong inhouse expertise. Collaborate closely with construction teams to ensure project success. Conduct site visits, monitor progress, and resolve constructionphase conflicts. Oversee postconstruction stages and ensure client specifications are met. Client & Stakeholder Engagement Present design concepts and coordinate approvals throughout design phases. Provide regular project updates and maintain strong communication channels. Attend meetings with authorities having jurisdiction and support planning approvals. Innovation & Design Excellence Lead the creation of presentationquality drawings, models, and renderings. Participate in design discussions, idea generation, and 3D modeling. Conduct Ontario Building Code reviews and ensure compliance across all phases. Analyze architectural plans, identify risks, and implement BIMbased solutions. Compliance, Approvals & Documentation Manage municipal approvals and building permit submissions. Review drawings, provide redlines, and stamp documents as required. Prepare and issue closeout documentation including occupancy letters and substantial completion. Business Development & Practice Management Contribute to firm growth and identify new opportunities. Review and approve consultant proposals, budgets, and invoices. Conduct weekly project reviews and biweekly reporting to ownership. Support recruitment and selection of new team members. Licensed Architect with the OAA (required). 10+ years of architectural design and project leadership experience. 6+ years leading teams of interns, designers, and technologists. 6+ years working on mid/highrise development projects. Strong portfolio demonstrating design excellence and technical capability. Deep knowledge of building codes, regulations, and sustainability standards. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, 3D Studio Max, MS Office, and BIM tools. Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Experience running a practice is an asset. Experience with contract negotiations and issuing payment certificates. Ability to produce and manage all contract administration documentation. Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and followthrough.
