Unposting Date: :59 PM Your role: CBC has a permanent full-time opportunity based in Halifax to join our Atlantic Creative Content unit as a Video Producer. You have experience in a media environment producing high impact arts and documentary content and are highly skilled in video editing, shooting styles and techniques. You have experience in digital storytelling genres and producing high quality journalistic content. You are passionate about supporting the independent film community in Atlantic Canada. You are a problem solver and team player, comfortable with helping creators shape their content in a collaborative and inclusive manner. You are knowledgeable about effective strategies for each digital and social platform, as well as what works for a streaming service. We are looking for a skilled visual storyteller and craft shooter who''s fluent in what works for our regional documentary and arts streams, who can make content that grows audiences and increases engagement. Reporting to the Creative Content Unit Manager for the Atlantic Region, Ken MacIntosh, you will work closely with the Creative Content unit''s Senior Producer, Natalie Dobbin, on documentaries produced for ''Land and Sea'' in the Maritimes and the Absolutely Canadian Documentaries from Atlantic Canada along with periodic special projects. This role requires full time on site presence. Functions: -Conceive, research, develop and produce visual story ideas and concepts, as well as shooting and editing both video and still images. - Evaluate and provide feedback on documentary pitches. -You help in the delivery and distribution of the content for linear television, digital platforms, streaming channels and social media. - Your work will adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices but there is latitude for initiative, independent judgment and creativity. Occasionally, there may be a requirement to coordinate the work of others. Key Tasks: - Conceives, develops and produces videos for television, online, streaming and various social media platforms. - Helps to determine or influence the editorial direction of a story. Takes direction from, and works collaboratively with, other content creators as required. - Evaluates and provides feedback on documentary and other arts related video pitches. - Develops story content including the researching, writing and editing of written material, as well as the style, pace, tempo and format. - Performs visual research with the use of archives and databases and collects and maintains video and images for digital and all platforms. - Performs location surveys and identifies special requirements such as audio, lighting, camera angles and production limitations. - Coordinates production of live events as needed. - Ensures that the material produced meets technical and aesthetic requirements for editing. - Provides technical guidance, expertise and support within the team, focused on visual production techniques and digital workflows. - Stays informed on and contributes to the development of new production methods using contemporary visual storytelling trends, practices, tools and techniques, to continually improve CBC''s content and best practices. We are looking for a candidate with the following: - A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from university or college, plus 5 years of practical and relevant experience in video and photo editing. - Experience working with social and digital video in a news environment, as well as the ability to think creatively in the production of video content. - Familiarity with photo and video equipment -- including Canon DSLR and C cameras, Sony PMW200, PXW-Z750, FX-9 and various still cameras and mobile devices -- and editing techniques and tools including Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects. - Experience using drone cameras and relevant drone certifications are considered an asset. - Experience Preparing and exporting finished videos in required formats and aspect ratios (landscape, square, vertical) for assorted web and broadcast platforms as well as in-depth knowledge of various video codecs, file delivery formats, and file management best practices. - Experience in storytelling with a demonstrated ability to recognize the nuances of a story. - An interest in and knowledge of Atlantic provinces and their diverse communities. - An understanding of video documentary and arts production. - The ability to work well independently and as part of a team. - Ability to work effectively and simultaneously on multiple projects with varying deadlines. - Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. - A strong sense of creativity, initiative and a high degree of responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work throughout the complete production cycle. -Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required, including being deployed to out of town stories. -Possession of a valid driver''s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada''s insurance company.
