As a Design Program Manager, youll utilize your expertise and knowledge of Architecture, Building Science and Design to contribute to the ongoing efforts of Toronto Community Housing to improve the neighborhoods and lives of residents of Toronto. The Design Program Manager oversees design and engineering services for major and minor construction projects for retrofit, renewal and rehabilitation projects ranging in size, scale and complexity. TCHCs building portfolio consists of over 1300 buildings built with an average age of 60 years. You will manage an engineering and administrative team involved in wide-ranging design and engineering construction work in buildings and building systems ranging individually from $10K to over $10M. We are seeking innovative and creative thinkers to help find design solutions that preserve and renew our portfolio assets, raise the quality of design, and greatly enhance occupant comfort and improve the quality of our tenants lives. What Youll Do Work as part of a project team to deliver good quality design solutions. Manage Architectural and Building Science projects and programs. Provide architectural and/or engineering project supervision and project management functions, including consulting services and professional expertise on construction projects. Manage design teams including Consultants, Construction Managers and Contractors in scope definition, design, estimating, scheduling, intrusive investigation, close-out and warranty administration of renewal, retrofit and rehabilitation projects. Oversee the progress of design projects, cost control, drawing review, coordination, facilitation and document of project development from scoping to construction contract award. Develop conceptual designs, project scopes, schedules for proposed construction projects. Review detailed designs, cost estimates, contract documents and implementation plans for proposed construction projects. Prepare documents for tendering and evaluates proposal responses, arranges for procurement and manages and/or reviews vendor performance. Coordinate with other disciplines, internal and external. Monitor project schedules and provide solutions to avoid project delays. Conduct construction inspections and site reviews to ensure work is performed in accordance with original engineering specifications. Control and maintain project expenditures within approved budget limitations. Obtain permits and approvals from governing authorities that have jurisdiction over the work. Oversee architectural and/or engineering feasibility studies including conceptual design, cost estimates and final reports. Provide technical advice and expertise in utilizing architectural, engineering, or building science principles and practices to assist in project and program development. Review assessments on building or equipment conditions. Reviews shop drawings. Supports the review and implementation plans and policies for program specific requirements. Establishes and maintains key supplier contacts for equipment and specialty subcontractors, including vendor performance reports. What Youll Need Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is an asset, or College diploma in building science or architectural technology. University degree in engineering or architecture preferred. PMP designation is an asset. Minimum of 5-7 years experience in work related to building science. Ontario-based knowledge and experience in a Consulting environment is an asset. Understanding of the relevant legislation, by-laws and codes affecting residential development and construction. Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Lien Act for the construction industry. Familiarity with various contract types, including Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) templates, is an asset. Analytical skills in developing, evaluating design constructability issues. Proficient in preparing, reading, interpreting construction designs and documents, preparing and assembling design estimates and working budgets, cash flows and pricing. Knowledge of sustainable building design and implementation. Valid G drivers license and access to a vehicle are required.
