About The Role We are actively seeking a highly motivated, resultsoriented individual with experience in the financial services industry. This is a key role in the Fund Finance team that will lead the tax function for ATB Investment Managements Investment Funds and play a critical role in the firms strategic direction. The role is hybrid and can be based out of Calgary, Edmonton, or Toronto. Accountabilities Lead all tax compliance, tax reporting, indirect tax and PFIC reporting for the Investment Funds. Oversee yearend and adhoc distribution process, liaise with fund administrator, external tax advisors, accounting and operations teams. Ensure compliance with all foreign tax filings and withholding tax requirements on foreign investments; optimize foreign tax credits with local and foreign service providers. Review complex corporate actions and transactions for proper tax treatment. Participate in strategic initiatives and projects, including supporting future product development. Oversee and manage relationships with external service providers and auditors, ensuring compliance and high work quality. Research advanced tax issues, keep abreast of changes in tax and regulatory requirements. Identify opportunities to improve and enhance data management and automation related to tax reporting and compliance. Assist with the implementation of tools and technology to enhance our investment management capabilities. Apply proactive, creative thinking to identify and navigate emerging trends and share thought leadership. Assist in establishing and maintaining proper policies and procedures. Skills, Experience & Requirements CPA designation required; enrolment or completion of the CPA Canada InDepth Tax Course highly desirable. Minimum of 5 years of progressive Canadian income tax experience in a major accounting firm, asset manager or fund administrator. Understanding of indirect taxes as applicable to financial institutions and investment funds. Superior communication skills, both verbal and written, for dealing with the CRA, investors and internal teams. Selfstarter with strong work ethic that takes initiative and ownership and seeks out clarification and guidance as needed. Critical thinking and ability to solve complex problems and explain them in general terms to various audiences. Well organized with strong attention to detail and high quality of work. Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
