Overview The Department of Molecular Genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto (St. George campus) invites applications for a fulltime tenurestream position in the area of Virology. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of January1,2027. Qualifications Ph.D. in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline at the time of appointment. Demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. Relevant postdoctoral experience or equivalent is expected. Strong evidence of internationally competitive research excellence (publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, research statement, accolades or awards, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing). Research Responsibilities The successful candidate will be expected to mount an innovative, competitive and independently funded research program in the broadly defined area of molecular virology. The candidate will also be invited to become a member of the Emerging and Pandemic Infections Consortium (EPIC; epic.utoronto.ca), a program that marshals the advanced research infrastructure and worldrenowned expertise of the University and its affiliated hospital network to enable an integrated, innovative response to infectious diseases. Teaching Responsibilities Undergraduate and graduate teaching responsibilities on the Universitys St.George campus. Evidence of excellence in teaching, demonstrated through a teaching dossier that includes a teaching statement, sample course materials, teaching evaluations, and other evidence of superior performance. Strong endorsements by referees. Salary & Funding Expected salary range: $125,000$155,000CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. Department and Community The Department of Molecular Genetics holds a leadership position in Canada and internationally as a premier venue for biomedical and life sciences research and education. The Departments deep and rich tradition of teaching and research excellence dates back to 1969. It comprises over 100 faculty members whose research spans the frontiers of biological research and discovery, from Cellular and Molecular Structure and Function to Computational and Systems Biology, Functional Genomics and Proteomics, Genetic Models of Development and Disease, Molecular Medicine and Human Genetics, and Molecular Microbiology and Infectious Disease. The Department offers researchintensive graduate programs, professional programs in Medical Genomics and Genetic Counselling, and undergraduate programs in both Genetics and Microbiology that provide opportunities for involvement in research and exposure to the most current techniques.
