Reporting to the Head of School and working closely with the Board of Directors, the Director of Finance is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and plays a central role in ensuring the financial health, sustainability, and integrity of the school. JOB TITLE Director of Finance (0.8 1.0 FTE) Job Description This is a full-time, continuing position, although it may be reduced to an 0.8 FTE to suit the right candidate. The start date is somewhat flexible as our desire is to create an overlap with our retiring Director of Finance during the formation of next years budget in the February April 2026 budget creation process. Key Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership Lead long-range financial planning aligned with the schools strategic plan Develop and monitor multi-year operating and capital forecasts Support major initiatives such as capital projects, fundraising campaigns, and endowment planning Provide financial modelling and scenario analysis to inform leadership and Board decisions Budgeting & Financial Management Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Head of School and SLT Monitor revenues, expenditures, and cash flow to ensure fiscal discipline Oversee tuition revenue, financial assistance frameworks, and enrollment-related financial planning Ensure effective internal controls and sound financial practices Manage the schools cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations. Board & Governance Support Prepare clear, accurate, and timely financial reports for the Board and Finance Committee Support Board policy development related to finance, risk, and stewardship Ensure compliance with the BC Societies Act, CRA charitable requirements, and Ministry of Education expectations Coordinate the annual independent audit, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of audit schedules and financial statements. Oversee the preparation and filing of all required tax documents and reports. Act as a trusted advisor to the Head of School and Board on financial and society matters Operational Oversight Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger. benefits administration, and financial systems Direct and monitor the schools Financial Assistance for School Tuition (FAST) program. Supervise and support finance staff, fostering professionalism and continuous improvement Manage the human resource function for the school, including on-boarding of new employees, prepare contracts and annual payroll calendars for all staff, maintain employee benefits, maintain appropriate policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. Manage relationships with auditors, banks, insurers, and external advisors Ensure accurate year-end financial statements and successful annual audits Identify and manage financial, operational, and compliance risks Oversee insurance coverage and risk mitigation strategies Ensure compliance with PIPA and other relevant privacy and regulatory requirements Organizational Leadership Contribute actively to SLT discussions and whole-school leadership Support a culture of trust, clarity, and collaboration across departments Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences Model KCS values while contributing to a healthy, mission-aligned workplace culture Oversee accounting and HR staff, leading a healthy culture of departmental service Qualifications & Experience Required Bachelors or graduate degree with an emphasis in finance and/or business administration Significant experience in financial leadership, accounting, or business management Demonstrated ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis and reporting Experience in strategic planning, finance and risk management, and supporting HR management Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Experience working with Boards and/or senior leadership teams Proficiency in financial software and systems, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
