Overview Reporting to the Structural Section Manager, the Senior Structural Engineer is a member of the integrated project team that contributes structural engineering knowledge and analysis during the design phase. With a focus on water retaining structures, the project mix will be varied across building and non-building structures in collaboration with HDR''''s Water, Resources, and Transportation Business Groups. The role involves working on multiple projects with project sites in various locations. The Senior Structural Engineer may be involved in construction contract administration, site inspections on different projects, condition assessments, peer reviews, and quality reviews. The successful candidate will mentor and lead within a growing integrated engineering team, promoting leadership skills and consolidating design and construction documentation processes. Common areas for progression include narrower Technical Specialization and Project Management. In the role of Senior Structural Engineer, we''''ll count on you to: Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects; resolve problems of greater scope and complexity Plan and develop projects or design activities Actively participate in development of project deliverables. Plan, organize and supervise, and seal work of medium to large teams of professionals and technicians Support a wide variety of projects that require Owners Engineering, consulting, and detailed design Participate in development of procurement and construction specifications, design reviews and technical assessment of construction progress Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures Serve as Project Manager on larger projects, though project management is not sole focus of position Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently Establish client relations (internal and external clients) and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with other Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines Perform other duties as needed Scope of work Water and wastewater structures Concrete, Steel, and Masonry structures In addition to building structures, the scope might extend to different civil and linear structures, including transportation, water, and waste management projects Preferred Qualifications Masters Degree in Structural Engineering is preferred. Proficiency with finite element structural design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, or similar; working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Bluebeam Expert in local and national building codes in Canada and the US (e.g. ASCE7, NBCC) Strong communication, listening and mentoring skills, and ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments Good leadership and organizational skills Experience in coding, programming, and design automation is a plus Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED is desired Experience with ACI 350 (and/or CSA S900) structures, particularly water retaining structures, is a plus Experience with structural condition assessment, repair, and rehabilitation Computer knowledge of Risa 3D, RAM, STAAD PRO is a plus Required Qualifications Bachelor''''s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering A minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience related to building design Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized by the licensing board for the position location Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software Experience in design calculations and layouts Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm Commitment to being an active participant in HDRs employee-owned culture What We Believe HDR is our company.
