Staff Software Engineer, Query MongoDB Join the MongoDB Server Query Integration team to help build a worldclass distributed opensource database. Our team plays a crucial role in the experience and performance of data processing. We are responsible for building userfacing features on top of the core query engine and for integrating the query engine with other products in the MongoDB ecosystem. This includes enhancing our timeseries product, extending language support for analytics, growing Atlas Search and Vector Search with database support, and adding workload telemetry to provide deeper insight into how our database is used. We have tons of interesting problems to solve with a direct impact on users for transactional, timeseries, lexical, and vector search and analytical workloads. The team is systematically rewriting every major component of our optimization and execution systems, and we need your help to design and build the heart of a distributed, flexibleschema document database. Position is open for candidates based in the United States or Canada under a hybrid working model. Candidate Profile 10+ years of experience in datamanagement systems Experience building productionlevel code with a large user base, robust design structure, and rigorous code quality Degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture Experience with large codebases written in C++ or another systems programming language, including defect tracing, effort estimation, and design evolution during rewrites Passion for the theory and practice of database query engines, and academic or handson experience in the database domain Position Expectations Be directly responsible for delivering goals across a 618 month timeframe Play a key role in defining the roadmap for the next 12 months Write welltested, productionready code in C++ (our test infrastructure also uses Python and JavaScript) Research stateoftheart query systems to inform our design Leverage deep knowledge of the products strengths and weaknessesas well as industry trendsto provide technical vision and direction Advise management on decisions related to roadmap, processes, architecture, and design Collaborate with stakeholders and engineering teams across the company on large initiatives Influence and grow team members through active mentoring, coaching, and leading by example Help cultivate a strong talent bench through interviewing, mentoring, and knowledge sharing Success Measures In three months: contribute to a project slated for the next major version and fix a few bugs in a minor version of our latest stable release; learn about MongoDBs project lifecycle and longterm goals. In six months: take on codereview responsibilities, actively draft and review designs for new features, and present a paper or system architecture related to query systems. In twelve months: leveraging extensive past experience, contribute to the longterm technical roadmap of the MongoDB Query team. Salary is one part of our total compensation and benefits package, which may include equity, participation in the employee stock purchase program, flexible paid time off, 20 weeks fullypaid genderneutral parental leave, fertility and adoption assistance, RRSP with employer match, mental health counseling, backup child and elder care, and health, dental, and vision benefits.
