Overview The North West Company is hiring experienced department managers to relocate, live and work in a remote northern Canadian community. NWC provides relocation assistance, as well as food and housing allowances. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada. This role is only open to candidates with 2+ years of experience in a manager role in a high volume retail/grocery environment. Key Responsibilities The Department Manager, Convenience is accountable for the successful day-to-day operation of the C-Store. This includes implementation of Company standards, management of Company assets, maintaining a local competitive position, and the development and training of staff. The incumbent supports the rest of the store management team and fosters positive customer relationships. Provide excellent customer service by delivering on the Value Offer and prioritizing customer relationships Deal with customer complaints and requests quickly and effectively Address and respond to all customer inquiries Schedule department staff to maximize customer service and fulfill business needs Ensure an enjoyable shopping experience for customers Manage the C-Store to maximize sales and profits. Responsibilities include ensuring readiness and maintenance of the Convenience Department, developing business plans to meet goals, protecting assets, monitoring gross profit and variances, managing invoices, completing inventories, and conducting regular price checks. Ensure the Convenience Department is ready for business, stocked and maintained Develop departmental business plans to meet or exceed sales and gross profit goals Protect company assets: maintain and control inventories Monitor gross profit, address variances, and communicate with Category Manager Oversee invoicing accuracy and communicate variances Complete Business Segment inventories as required Perform regular competitor price checks to protect competitive position Provide input to Procurement and Marketing on sales trends and item requests Monitor inventory levels and shrink; rotate stock for freshness Ensure daily operating disciplines as described in the Best Practices Manual are consistently met. Support advertising campaigns and POP strategies as directed Meet operating goals by monitoring performance, merchandising, promotions, standards and controls; take remedial actions as needed Ensure product quality through proper ordering, receiving, inspection, handling, labeling, pricing and stock rotation Follow merchandise guidelines for all food resets Maintain equipment and fixtures as directed Maintain 52-week files and records Support, train and develop staff Ensure staff provide outstanding customer service Provide leadership to store team and support the Store Manager Recruit, train, lead and develop C-store Department employees Maintain ongoing communication with staff about key activities Supervise, coach, develop, and evaluate C-Store Department employees as required Qualifications Were looking for professional, organized workers with a healthy sense of adventure and a strong knowledge and experience base.
