Job Details Job Requisition Id: 196903 Business Function: Legal Primary City: Toronto Other Locations: (none listed) Province: Ontario Greater Toronto Area Employment Type: FullTime Employment Status: Permanent Language Requirement: English Essential Employee Class & Level: CPMGB01 Number of Vacancies: 1 Recruiter: Eleanor Ayafar Reports To: Chris Meaney Job Description Responsible for assisting Counsel with all legal matters, monitoring files during Counsels absence, preparing and drafting legal documents, summarizing files and decisions, liaising with various departments and external law firms, conducting research, producing reports, and undertaking special projects. Additionally, administer the office of the Assistant General Counsel. Responsibilities Administer and coordinate all assigned legal matters, participate in meetings, ensure followups, provide documentation to client groups, respond to requests promptly, verify information for court or arbitration, draft documents, and take on special projects. Maintain familiarity with legal matters requiring negotiation, analysis and approvals; assist Counsel, answer inquiries discreetly, and alert Counsel to urgent requests or potential exposure. Gather, analyze and synthesize legal and factual information to advise Counsel on litigation and corporate matters; participate in decisionmaking on legal procedures. Gather, organize and assess documentary evidence for relevancy and completeness, and interpret jurisprudence to develop solutions. Communicate with legal services staff to ensure readiness for arbitration, trial, discovery; contact external Counsel as needed. Develop and implement internal schedules; record and track documentation from external counsel; manage data entry into the electronic information system. Record and track time expenditures with an electronic system; monitor requisitions, utilisation and costs of external counsel; assist in cost control. Provide administrative services to the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for the head office law practice and legal practice in Central and West. Qualifications Education: Completed postsecondary education in a related field or a combination of professional experience and training. Experience: 1 to 3 years of relevant functional experience; 1+ year in a unionised environment is an asset. Other Candidate Requirements: Proficient computer skills, competent with Microsoft Office; enrollment in specific designation or certification programmes may be required for certain positions; strong communication, analytical and customer service skills.
