About The Role Gusto is looking for a handson engineering leader to lead our Pay Mobile team, responsible for building and scaling the mobile experiences that help employers and workers get paid simply and reliably in the Gusto app. This domain is at the heart of Gustos mission, ensuring millions of employees across hundreds of thousands of businesses are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with an everevolving regulatory landscape. As part of the broader Pay group, you will play a critical role in advancing Gustos mobilefirst vision by owning the full lifecycle of mobile surfaces tied to paying people and by partnering closely with crossfunctional stakeholders and other app teams to drive impact. In this role, you will lead and grow a team of engineers, set a clear technical and product direction, and raise the bar for quality, reliability, and customer trust, while also exploring how to thoughtfully leverage AI on mobile to improve key workflows and outcomes. You will join a highly collaborative engineering culture grounded in inclusion and high performance, with strong crossfunctional partnership across product, design, and other engineering teams. Heres What Youll Do DaytoDay Lead and scale the team: Recruit, mentor, and develop a diverse team of engineers while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and highperformance culture, focused on career growth and business impact. Work crossfunctionally: Partner across different business units to deliver an endtoend product experience. Delivery of technical solutions: Lead planning, execution, and delivery of impactful engineering projects, balancing technical excellence with practical business outcomes. Drive strategic roadmaps: Work closely with crossfunctional partners (Pay Group PMs and Mobile Platform teams) to set priorities, define both shortterm and longterm goals, and ensure accountability for progress and delivery. Foster innovation: Encourage a culture of growth experimentation and continuous improvement within the team, leveraging insights to drive meaningful enhancements. Heres What Were Looking For 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience with backend systems and native mobile development. 2-4 years of engineering management experience including coaching, mentoring, and sustaining highperforming teams. Experience leading multiquarter, largescale technical initiatives as a tech lead or engineering manager. Strong understanding of multiplatform products (e.g., iOS, Android, backend APIs), experience working with fullstack, and crossplatform engineering teams. Experience building horizontal platform solutions that serve other engineering teams. Excellent communication and collaboration skills youre comfortable navigating complexity and bringing together teams across orgs. A strong service mindset you lead with curiosity, care deeply about people, and empower those around you. Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $163,000/yr to $204,000/yr in Denver (plus most remote locations), and $198,000/yr to $247,000/yr for San Francisco & New York. Stock equity is additional. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above. Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 23 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gustos subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale. Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas. When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required. This includes nonoffice days for hybrid employees.
