Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Decisions and Pricing Foundations) Join Affirm to apply for the Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Decisions and Pricing Foundations) role. This team owns the foundational aspect of Affirms underwriting engine: architecting, modernizing, and optimizing its capabilities to serve an everincreasing number of consumers and merchants while maintaining high availability and excellent economics. What Youll Do Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve openended problems and ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery. Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during the product development lifecycle by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and making decisions that consider risks and tradeoffs. Proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead in solving them. Support the operations and availability of your teams artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting oncall efforts. Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving codereview and design standards, and advocating them beyond your team through writing and tech talks. Help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example. What We Look For 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin. Track record of building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes. Familiarity with offline data processing using frameworks like Spark or Ray. Knowledge of streamprocessing architectures and the ability to bridge online and offline systems with hybrid designs. Experience defining a technical plan for a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, and extensible design. Write highquality code that is easily understood and used by others. Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base, and having developed tools and practices that enable safe modifications. Take ownership of personal growth, proactively seeking feedback from your team, manager, and stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team. Pay & Equity Pay Grade: N Equity Grade: 6 Base pay range per year: $150,000 $200,000 (CAN for U.S. positions).
