Land Mobile Radio Engineer (LMR Engineer) Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada - Onsite Contract Term: April 1, 2026 - March 31, 2029 (3 Years) Extension: Optional 24-month extension (up to March 2031) Working Hours: 7.25 hours per business day Up to 1,860 hours per year Full-time engineering support during standard business hours Field deployment required as needed Up to 25% travel across Alberta to: AFRRCS radio tower sites Microwave and satellite link sites Dispatch centers First responder facilities Support for Alberta First Responders Radio Communications System (AFRRCS) , a missioncritical, provincewide APCO P25 publicsafety radio network. This fulltime engineering role includes RF engineering, radio testing and approval, spectrum planning, Safety Code 6 assessments, interference troubleshooting , and technical support for police, fire, EMS, sheriffs, and public safety partners across Alberta. Work is primarily onsite in Edmonton, with up to 25% field travel. Education & Qualification Requirements Education: Bachelor''''s Degree in Engineering (accredited engineering program) Licensing / Certifications Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA Eligible to provide independent professional engineering services Secret Security Clearance (mandatory) Recent Criminal Record Check (within last 90 days) Technical Qualifications Strong expertise in: RF Engineering & Propagation P25 LMR Systems (preferably Harris) Spectrum/Frequency Engineering & ISED Licensing Microwave & Satellite Communications Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) RFI/EMI Troubleshooting Safety Code 6 (RF exposure compliance) Ability to travel provincewide Experience Requirements Minimum Experience: 5+ years licensed engineering experience Preferred Experience APCO P25 LMR networks (Phase 1 and Phase 2) Harris radio systems, configuration, tuning, and testing RF propagation analysis, modelling, and coverage studies Spectrum planning, coordination, and interference mitigation ISED licensing processes Microwave backhaul and satellite communications DAS systems design and validation Safety Code 6 assessments (EMR/EMF compliance) Rootcause analysis for interference issues Engineering documentation, reporting, and system performance analysis Field engineering support at radio towers and public safety sites Responsibilities Radio Testing & Approvals: Evaluate, test, verify, and approve subscriber radios for AFRRCS compliance. Conduct P25 configuration, programming, and tuning RF Engineering & Spectrum Management: Conduct RF propagation analysis and coverage validation. Perform frequency planning and spectrum coordination. Complete ISED licensing support Safety Code 6 Compliance: Perform RF exposure analysis and ensure compliance with Safety Code 6 Interference Investigation: Detect, analyze, and resolve RFI/EMI issues affecting AFRRCS. Conduct tower and site interference assessments Tower Collocation & Field Engineering: Review tower collocation applications for RF impact. Provide engineering support at AFRRCS sites across Alberta Public Safety Agency Support: Assist police, fire, EMS, sheriffs, and government responder agencies with radio and system issues Documentation & Reporting: Prepare monthly engineering reports, technical analyses, and system evaluations.
