Overview Senior Geo-Structural/Geotechnical Design Engineer, for COWI in North America Role location and type Toronto Regular, Full-Time, Hybrid Responsibilities Perform engineering analysis and design of tunnels, caverns, and shafts in soils, bedrock and/or mixed ground conditions, including initial support and final lining constructed by methods such as sequential excavation method (SEM) / NATM, TBM, or drill and blast Apply soil and rock mechanics to evaluate failure modes and develop ground support schemes Evaluate subsurface conditions for different tunneling and underground excavation methods based on geotechnical data Prepare drawing sketches indicating support types, geometry, construction sequencing, instrumentation, and results; document these in technical memoranda and geotechnical design reports Contribute to digital delivery and information management of projects from conception through completion Qualifications A Masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering (PhD considered an asset) A registered Professional Engineer License (P.Eng.) in Ontario Minimum of 10+ years international project design experience, including analysis and design of tunnels, caverns and underground structures Experience providing geotechnical support for complex structures; familiarity with Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code Team player who is self-motivated and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment Basic knowledge of BIM and parametric design software (AutoCAD, Dynamo, Grasshopper) and design software (RS2/3, SWEDGE, UNWEDGE, DIPS, UDEC, FLAC/FLAC3D, Plaxis 2D/3D, Sofistik, etc.) What we offer Flexible working arrangement Top-up parental and childbirth recovery leave Supportive team with knowledge sharing Minimum 3 weeks vacation to start for full-time hires Floating holiday to celebrate employee diversity Paid sick leave Annual fitness spending account Group RRSP program with company matching Personal and professional development fund Parking or public transit allowance Extended Health coverage with premiums paid by the company Employee Assistance Program (EAP) STD, LTD, AD&D, and Life Insurance Referral incentive program Frequent social events Equal opportunity employer COWI provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
