Under the supervision of the Vice President of the Major Projects Tunneling, the Project Director is fully responsible for all proposals he is involved with, with or without the assistance of a project manager. The Project Director plans, directs, organizes, coordinates, and controls the execution of one or more construction projects simultaneously. Responsibilities Responsible for the preparation of bids and the execution of projects; signing of tenders is the responsibility of the assigned VicePresident. Negotiate agreements with subcontractors, sign letters of intent after discussion with the VicePresident, verify agreements with subcontractors and sign them (for subcontracts valued at less than $1 million). In collaboration with project managers and superintendents, ensure that the work meets the standards and objectives set for quality, safety, and relationships in terms of quantity, deadlines, and costs, and take corrective action when required. Assist the VicePresident in negotiating customer contract terms when required. Monthly verification and discussion with project managers of all cost controls under his/her supervision and reporting to the VicePresident. Assign staff to work sites in accordance with the policies of the Human Resources department (salaries must be approved by the Human Resources director) and monitor the productivity of resources under his/her responsibility as well as operating costs. Ensure customer satisfaction with a concern for safety, costs, schedule and quality of work. Ensure application of and compliance with the EBC health and safety estimate and sitespecific H&S programs for each project. Ensure compliance with the company''''s QA/QC system in accordance with the appropriate ISO standard. Follow up on ISO procedures with operational staff; responsible for site kickoff meetings, periodic reviews, postmortems, and participation in planning reviews. Discuss legal or litigation issues with the VicePresident, and ensure documentation. Perform all other tasks required for the execution of his/her mandate. Evaluate personnel under his/her responsibility according to company policies. Requirements University degree or technology diploma in engineering, or a combination of education and industry experience. 15+ years experience in the construction industry. Previous civil construction experience specifically in tunnels, underground works, deep shafts, ground stabilization, metro and rail work. Extensive experience in tunneling is preferred. A proven track record of project success and team leadership. Strong knowledge of tunnel construction methodologies such as TBM (rock and soft ground), SEM/NATM (soft ground tunneling, face subdivision, presupport installation, tunnel junction, breakouts), cut and cover, road header, and microtunnelling. Good knowledge of geology and geotechnical science. Strong experience delivering largescale projects within a partnership environment. Strong experience with alternative delivery mode projects (DesignBuild, P3). Strong knowledge of financial management, building codes and associated legislation. Good computer skills and previous experience with scheduling software. Skills and Attitudes Required Outstanding communication and organizational skills with the ability to influence others effectively and resolve client, project, and technical issues to bring the project to successful completion.
