Canada - Automation Engineer II (contract) Title: Canada Automation Engineer II Pay range: $50-$60 Work Schedule: 1st shift 8am-4pm M-F Location: Toronto, Ontario Contract Length: 10 months Responsibilities Manages and schedules activities in the automation service unit by applying project management skills to intake automation requests, schedule development and routine activities, and maintain a prioritized work list of activities. Sets up and maintains KanBan boards, Jira tickets, and weekly scrums with stakeholders to communicate progress, delays, and completions. Independently creates robotic protocols in Venus 4+ software to manipulate Hamilton liquid handlers. Creates, updates, and maintains SoftMax Pro protocols in a nonGXP environment, including fully automated calculations, statistics, and summarized final results. Proficient at programming integration software such as Green Button Go or Genera. Familiar with pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or analytical QC tests, including but not limited to ELISAs, protein assays, etc. Maintains detailed user stories, programming notes, and flags opportunities for continuous improvement. Works with crossfunctional teams (technologists, scientists, and leadership teams) to translate technical methods or desired manipulations into automated processing. Details precise data outputs, files, and demonstrates awareness of data stewardship. Qualifications (Ideally) Master of Science or Applied Science with a focus on robotics, mechanical engineering, or high throughput assay development. 3+ years of handson experience in laboratory automation, with significant expertise in Hamilton systems. Proven success in optimizing resource usage and throughput by developing and scaling automated liquid handling systems. Technical Skillsn Expertise in automating complex liquid handling workflows using Hamilton systems and other platforms such as SoftMax Pro and electronic laboratory notebooks. Proficiency in programming languages like Python and JavaScript for developing automated scripts and reducing manual tasks. Strong mechanical skills applicable to laboratory automation platforms, such as liquid handlers, laboratory robotic equipment, and integration of multiple instruments/devices into a single workflow. Familiarity with data pipelines, database management (SQL/NoSQL), and system integration for enhanced automation and workflow efficiency. Soft Skills Strong communicator who confidently presents new ideas, leads with conviction, and breaks down complex problems into actionable steps. Energetic leader capable of managing a small team of automation specialists. Analytical thinker with proven success in solving complex issues. Collaborative team player who works effectively with technologists, scientists, and leadership. Other Requirements Location: Onsite, Toronto (5 days per week). Language: English (French an asset but not required). Must have handson experience with Hamilton systems, not just observation.
