Our inhouse lawyer will provide advice to the Director, Risk & Legal, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of daily activities. In this role, you are responsible for assisting project teams in execution of our building projects in all Atlantic provinces, ensuring smooth and efficient operations from contract negotiation through to final completion. This role will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating Lindsays operational risk, with a focus on contracts, dispute resolution, insurance, and compliance. Draft agreements, amendments, supplementary conditions, and schedules/appendices. Provide accurate and practical advice to project teams based on existing contracts. Draft notices in accordance with contractual and legislative requirements. Work within projectdriven deadlines. Assist with commercial transactions (leasing, shareholders agreements, lending, real property) in conjunction with external counsel. Insurance Evaluate and report on insurable claims. Provide timely advice to project teams on policies, reporting, and claims management. Coordinate claims, including required documentation, with project teams, brokers, and adjusters. Work with project teams and brokers to ensure appropriate coverage. Work with project teams to evaluate potential and actual disputes. Provide advice to project teams on timely and practical next steps. Interpret and apply contractual requirements, deadlines, and processes. Draft notices in compliance with contractual and legislative requirements. Coordinate claims, including required documentation, with external legal counsel. Compliance Understand and apply relevant legislation and regulations (including the applicable Lien Acts, Occupational Health and Safety Acts, and others). Ensure compliance with internal legal processes (e.g., contract review and amendment processes, signing authorities, and the Lindsay Business Management System). Assist with drafting and presenting companywide training on risk and legal topics. Assist with drafting risk and legalrelated policies and procedures. Core Competencies Timely review of contracts, subcontracts, notices, leases, and other legal documents. Timely review of potential and real disputes. Practical and prudent advice and documentation for project teams. Responsiveness to requests for review, advice, and documentation. Timely reporting and coordination of insurance claims. Effective communication and cooperation with team members. Demonstrated accountability for internal projects. Progress on continuous improvement and training initiatives. Maintain a safe and respectful workplace. Job Requirements Our ideal candidate has the following: Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD). Member in good standing of a provincial/territorial bar association, and eligible for membership in the Nova Scotia Barristers Society. Approximately 48 years experience practicing law. Note: this level of experience is approximate for the skill level we are seeking, but all interested applicants are encouraged to apply. High degree of attention to detail. Interest and/or experience in the construction industry is an asset, but not required.
