Job Description

Overview Regional Director, Commercial Originations, Commercial Finance Group (CFG) with Equitable Bank. The role involves originating and analyzing new loan opportunities, building and developing relationships, and working with credit and funding teams to ensure proper deal flow from inception to closing. The incumbent analyzes, structures conventional and construction loan opportunities (conventional and insured), across multiple asset classes, and assesses viability according to underwriter and pricing parameters. The position involves liaising with senior executives, procuring large commercial mortgage transactions with direct clients, mortgage brokers and partners; preparing loan summaries, issuing loan proposals, inspecting properties, and providing limited account management support to the underwriting group. This cross-functional role contributes to meeting annual CFG target volumes. Responsibilities Analyze and structure commercial credit opportunities for all conventional commercial mortgage product classes for presentation to senior management (including the VP & MD, Origination CFG, VP, Commercial Credit, Senior VP, Commercial, VP, Credit Risk, SVP, CRO and President/CEO). Ensure transactions comply with lending guidelines, ROE requirements, and procedures. Communicate daily with Origination, Credit and Funding teams, management, staff, and external contacts (partners, brokers, clients, appraisers, etc.). Proactively procure new commercial transactions by meeting with external contacts and attending industry events; coordinate marketing initiatives and identify new loan opportunities with the origination team. Manage deal flow and timelines to meet deadlines with the underwriting team. Travel for site inspections or presentations as required. What were looking for / Qualifications Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) in business or finance; specialization in Real Estate is an asset. Minimum 6 years of commercial mortgage experience as an analyst, account manager, or underwriter with proficient credit skills. Experience with institutional construction lending; solid knowledge of secured lending and factors affecting the commercial mortgage market at regulatory and macro-economic levels. Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong understanding of financial statements and financial ratio analysis; knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and corporate/legal documentation for commercial real estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities; strong negotiation, sales, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and in a team; highly developed verbal and written communication skills; customer service orientation and industry knowledge. Bilingualism is an asset. Job Complexities / Thinking Challenges The role requires a mature self-starter with sound judgment and a solid commercial credit background. Complex mortgage applications may require creative problem solving and proactive decision-making while following corporate policies and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will work with multiple external partners, each with unique complexities, and must apply product/document knowledge to assess suitability.
