We are looking for a Design Engineer to take concepts off the whiteboard and into the fielddesigning, building, testing, and commissioning pilot plants that push clean-energy technology forward. This position will work out of the Downtown Edmonton office and occasionally the Fort Saskatchewan office. The Role As a Design Engineer, you will lead the engineering design and execution of pilot plant systems and supporting infrastructurefrom early concept through construction, commissioning, and validation. Design & Engineering Lead the design process for pilot plants, including process and mechanical design, analysis, and documentation Perform process engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and selection Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, simulations, and general arrangement drawings Specify and select pilot plant equipment and technologies aligned with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements Maintain deep familiarity with processing equipment, including reactors, mass transfer operations, heat exchangers, air separation, gas and solids handling systems Project Execution & Collaboration Coordinate with external engineering consultants, vendors, and contractors Prepare design deliverables including drawings, technical reports, cost estimates, and construction specifications Review vendor drawings and documentation for compliance with project requirements Conduct site visits during construction, perform inspections, and recommend acceptance or required improvements Testing, Commissioning & Validation Support system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting in collaboration with engineers, technicians, and operators Develop and execute testing and validation protocols; analyze data and prepare summary reports Initiate corrective actions and design improvements based on testing outcomes Compliance, Safety & Documentation Apply GMP, GDP, regulatory guidance, and environmental and safety controls throughout the design lifecycle Ensure engineering designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements Create and maintain complete, accurate project documentation in accordance with Aurora Hydrogen standards Perform other duties as required to achieve Aurora Hydrogen technical milestones Who You Are: Qualifications & Experience Bachelor''s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or related discipline) from a recognized institution Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA Minimum 5 years of experience in chemical plant design and/or process engineering Strong knowledge of chemical process unit operations, with emphasis on gas and solids handling Experience with regulatory and code compliance for engineering design and construction Technical Skills Proficient in process simulation software (Aspen Plus or similar) Working knowledge of AutoCAD (1+ year preferred); ability to generate, read, and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, and layout drawings Advanced computer literacy, including MS Excel, Word, and Outlook Professional Strengths Highly organized with excellent time management and prioritization skills Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with competing priorities Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate process improvements, scale-up, and technology transfer initiatives Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement Positive, self-motivated, adaptable, and collaborative What We Offer: A competitive base salary ($80,000-$100,000 per annum) Stock options 3 weeks'' annual vacation 10 flex days each year Group benefits plan (50/50 cost share), coupled with a Health/Personal Spending Account Aurora Hydrogen supports a diverse and inclusive work environment and welcomes applications from all qualified applicants.
