Position Summary Engineering employees are represented by The Society of United Professionals, IFPTE Local 160. As an Engineer Trainee, BPV, you will assess the safety of submissions from clients for the registration or variance to the design of pressure retaining components and systems such as boilers, pressure vessels, piping and fittings in accordance with the provincial act, regulations and adopted codes and standards. Job Responsibilities Develop a sound knowledge of pressure equipment, piping systems, and welding/brazing requirements with respect to clients mechanical design Evaluate design submissions in accordance with the Ontario Regulations and adopted codes and standards (CSA, ASME and NBIC) by performing the following: Review TSSA application forms and submitted documents for completeness Analyze component or system technical drawings and calculations, as well as performing stress calculations to validate code compliance Follow up with client to address outstanding information requirements, code non-compliances, or technical questions Issuance of CRNs (Canadian Registration Number) when designs comply with applicable code and/or standard Participate in projects related to continuous improvement of the program Evaluate Welding and Brazing Procedure submissions in accordance with the Ontario Regulations and adopted codes and standards (CSA, ASME and NBIC) to validate code compliance Job Qualifications Bachelors degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or its equivalent as defined by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO). Eligible for obtaining Professional Engineer designation in the province of Ontario within 24 months of employment. Must have at least 2 years of engineering experience with a regulatory body or in the Boilers or Pressure Vessels industry. Knowledge of BPV codes and standards related to pressure equipment, piping systems, or welding/brazing, an asset Candidates with the following qualifications or skills are preferred: Skilled in analyzing mechanical designs Ability to work independently and closely with colleagues to enhance team performance and identify customer service delivery improvements Sound knowledge of boiler and pressure vessel designs Intermediate Computer Skills (Ranger, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, CRM) Ability to communicate professionally with team leaders, clients, fellow engineers, and inspectors Demonstrable skills in self-management, priority and time management, and document management Knowledge of the Ontario TSS Act, BPV Regulations, and related safety codes (CSA, ASME, NBIC) Knowledge of pressure equipment design software such as Compress and/or PV Elite Hiring Range Details As a unionized role represented by the Society of United Professionals Union, this position offers competitive wages as outlined in the collective agreement.
