Job Description

The Opportunity McElhanney is looking for a Junior Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Technologist to join our Calgary team and support transportation infrastructure projects across Western Canada. You''ll work alongside experienced engineers and designers on a mix of urban and rural projects, including road improvements, bridges, and culvert replacements. You may also support municipal and energy/resource projects, giving you exposure to a wide range of work early in your career. What You''ll Do Support contract administration for Parks Canada Agency (PCA) infrastructure projects, including coordination with contractors, inspectors, and internal project teams Assist with the preparation of technical reports, memoranda, and project documentation for condition assessments, construction, and asset management programs Conduct and document visual pavement inspections and field assessments, with guidance from senior staff Help develop construction cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and tender packages, including contract specifications and supporting documents Participate in construction inspections and field reviews to support quality control, safety, and compliance with project requirements Assist with survey coordination, materials testing, and the collection of field data as required Review and track contractor submittals, including traffic management plans, schedules, and shop drawings, for completeness and compliance Support utility coordination and stakeholder communication to help resolve conflicts and maintain project schedules Learn and apply PCA, municipal, and provincial standards, specifications, and best practices under the mentorship of experienced engineers and technologists What You''ll Bring Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Project Management Technology, or similar programs from an accredited institution Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D; exposure to InfraWorks, GIS, or other CAD/mapping tools is an asset Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Project or similar scheduling tools is a bonus Familiarity with Alberta Transportation, City of Calgary, or other municipal standards is an asset Registered or eligible to register as: an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA, or a Technician or Technologist with ASET Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and interact professionally with contractors and clients Comfortable working in both office and field environments, including construction sites and outdoor settings Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills A positive, team-oriented mindset with a genuine willingness to learn and grow under the mentorship of senior engineers and technologists What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $90,000 per annum.
