POSITION OVERVIEW Supporting the VP, Finance and Administration, the Senior Controller will provide strategic and operational financial leadership for a growing General Contractor. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards, supporting project-based financial management, and partnering with executive leadership to drive profitability, cash flow, and risk management across construction operations. This role is also 100% office based. The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance leader with deep construction accounting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and advanced Excel expertise. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Leadership & Reporting Lead the full-cycle accounting function, including general ledger, job cost accounting, AP/AR and financial close Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the VP Finance Ensure accurate WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and margin analysis Oversee annual audit and tax compliance processes Construction & Project Accounting Partner with Project Managers to monitor project budgets, forecasts, cost-to-complete, and profitability Review and analyze job cost reports, change orders, holdbacks, and progress billings Ensure compliance with BC construction lien legislation and statutory holdback requirements Cash Flow & Risk Management Oversee credit policies, collections, and subcontractor payment processes Systems, Controls & Process Improvement Maintain and enhance internal controls and financial policies Lead improvements in financial systems, reporting tools, and workflows Leadership & Collaboration Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting/finance team Collaborate closely with operations, estimating, and executive leadership QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE Required CPA designation (Canada) with legacy CMA designation will be considered an asset. Minimum 810 years of progressive accounting/finance experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments Proven experience in general contracting or related construction sectors Advanced Excel skills (complex formulas, pivot tables, financial models, dashboards) Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards and construction-specific accounting practices Preferred Experience working with construction accounting/ERP systems, Viewpoint Spectrum will be considered an asset.
