About Offworld: Offworld Industries Ltd. (Offworld) is the independent studio behind the successful military first-person shooter game, ''Squad''. We are looking for a talented Senior Tech Animator for our current and upcoming Unreal Engine based multiplayer games. If you are passionate about making great games and a team player, we are looking for you Job Duties: Animation Production & Implementation: Create high-quality full-body and first-person animations using both keyframe and motion capture techniques, adhering to established artistic and gameplay direction. Implement and integrate animations into the game engine, working closely with designers and programmers to ensure proper functionality and visual fidelity. Manage the animation quality of final assets in-engine, ensuring they are game-ready and meet performance targets. Technical Animation & Rigging: Rig complex assets including characters, vehicles, and intricate weapon props, ensuring they are optimized for animation and engine performance. Troubleshoot animation-related issues within the game engine, collaborating effectively with technical artists and programmers to identify and implement solutions. Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Work in close collaboration with the Lead Animator to understand quality objectives, gameplay intentions, and engine capacities, anticipating the in-game look and feel of animations. Support with the triage and resolution of animation bugs reported by the development team. Actively contributes to pushing the animation style and advancing the overall look and feel of animation within the game, in conjunction with the Lead Animator. Research & Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest animation techniques, software advancements, and industry trends to continuously improve animation quality and workflow efficiency. Requirements: 5+ years of professional experience in technical animation or animation-focused technical roles in game development Deep understanding of animation fundamentals and their application in real-time environments Extensive experience with game engine animation systems (Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary engines) Strong background in rigging, skinning, retargeting, IK/FK systems, and animation blending Proven experience building and shipping artist-facing tools or pipeline solutions Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines Bonus Proficiency in programming/scripting. This is a full-time, fixed-term 12-month contract position, with the requirement to work from our office three days per week. There is the possibility of an extension or transition to a permanent role based on the needs of the business. The typical salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000 CAD per year and is subject to change. The final agreed upon salary is based on work location and may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
