As a Research & Development Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of various business units and partners within the Community Strategies Business Unit, such as the Calgary Fire Department and Recreation and Social Programs, by collecting and analyzing data as a valuable asset to ensure solid business decisions and justify budgetary needs concerning partners'' overall operations. Primary duties include: Support the implementation of workplans related to the Community Research and Evaluation division. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide data-driven solutions. Collaborate with business unit partners to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services by analyzing policies, performance, and resource utilization. Collect data from various sources and play a key role in maintaining its accuracy and integrity, ensuring high data quality standards vital for effective decision-making. Perform complex analysis using tools such as Business Intelligence (BI) Launch Pad, advanced Microsoft Excel techniques, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and Power BI to address ad hoc requests, regular reports, and projects. Conduct Exploratory Data Analysis on partners'' data and create detailed insights through reports, dashboards and presentations. Prepare presentation materials for different audiences, including, but not limited to, City Council meetings, partner leadership team meetings, and public presentations. Customize and evaluate the Records Management System and corresponding data warehouse. Liaise with Information Technology (IT) staff to determine deficiencies and recommend improvement initiatives in data collection, storage, and analysis. Utilize the Darkhorse Emergency tool to support partner''s strategic planning and analysis. Support the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) team in developing various maps. Train staff and business unit partners to use reports and dashboards created using data visualization tools such as BI Launch Pad and Power BI. Qualifications A completed 2-year diploma in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 5 years of job-related experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting. A strong knowledge of, or proficiency with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL) is preferred. Experience using data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau is an asset. Experience in working with large datasets and database management is an asset. Experience in supporting multi-partner collaborations to achieve goals or address issues is an asset. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and the capability to work effectively in a team within a dynamic and changing and political environment.
