We are looking for a Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our Mining, Minerals and Metals practice in our Vancouver, BC or Calgary, AB office. This position will work collaboratively with other Stantec offices across Canada, the United States, South America and Australia, to support the service needs of our clients on local and international projects. As a Geotechnical EIT, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team working in energy and resources, primarily on metal, coal and large oil sands mining projects. Your work will include various stages in a project life cycle, from exploration and site investigations through conceptual design, construction, closure and reclamation. Our geotechnical project work typically involves design and evaluation of pit walls, mine rock and tailings storage facilities, surface water impoundments, and general mine infrastructure. Your Key Responsibilities Participate in planning and completion of geotechnical site investigations, including instrumentation, logging, sampling, and field testing. Install, monitor and provide preliminary interpretation of data from geotechnical instrumentation. Participate in the analyses and design of earth structures, including mine pit slopes, waste disposal areas and tailings dams. Support mine and tailings planning groups in the development and design of large mining and closure projects. Assist in the preparation of technical design documents under direct supervision. Generate and/or update technical drawings, figures and models. Assist in the preparation of project proposals under direct supervision. Comply with and actively participate in Stantec and client safety programmes. Your Capabilities and Credentials Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English (both written and oral). Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is an asset. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, ArcGIS and GeoStudio (or equivalent). Knowledge of MinePlan is an asset. Prior work experience in mining or resource industries is an asset. Ability to conduct work in a safe manner maintaining a high degree of situational awareness. Applicants may be required to travel for field assignments with rotations of up to 23 consecutive weeks, with a potential total annual travel of up to 50% of the time (if required). Between 0 to 4 years of industry or consulting experience. Coop or internship experience is applicable. E.I.T. registered or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or Alberta Professional Engineers Geoscientists Association (APEGA) is an asset. Valid Class5 drivers licence and satisfactory drivers abstract, per Stantec's Safe Driving Policy. Additional qualification requirements may apply depending on work assignments. The final agreed compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience and work location. Certain Stantec roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for parttime roles is prorated based on the agreed number of hours per week.
