The Opportunity Were looking to fill a Corporate Controller position at RFA Bank of Canada ! Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Corporate Controller is responsible for all aspects of the Companys financial operations, financial controls, and corporate accounting. They will be the knowledge leader on daily accounting, the general ledger and key internal financial reports including inputs into financial statements. This role also manages multiple internal and external relationships including the external auditors, and individual business units within RFA. Core Responsibilities As the Corporate Controller , you will: Corporate Accounting: Oversee the maintenance and control of the general ledger, including reviewing and approving journal entries and ensuring completion of reconciliations for multiple entities are timely and accurate. Ensure the Chart of Accounts is complete and provide the necessary data capture to provide management with the right level of financial information to make informed decisions. Ensures accuracy of financial reporting through review of monthly general ledger and account trends, reviewing for errors, omissions and unusual items. Oversee the accounts payable and commission processes ensuring accurate and informative reporting of expenses and oversight of spending. Close the Companys books on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis to meet both internal and external reporting deadlines. Maintain and further develop and improve periodic month-end and off-cycle ad-hoc reports. Develop, apply and maintain appropriate accounting policies, consistent with IFRS, regulatory requirements and general industry practice. Prepare technical accounting memos for financial transactions or reporting to support compliance with IFRS. Support the budget, forecast and capital planning processes through the provision of accurate financial information and financial analysis. Engage with the Business and IT to develop options to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of current processes through process changes including the deployment of supporting technology. Research and keep abreast of new accounting policies under IFRS that would have an impact on the business. Timely and accurate completion of consolidated and individual entity monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Provide ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as required. Prepare for review reporting required by parent entity on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Participate in enterprise risk management (ERM), including operational and financial risk assessments, overseeing financial risk controls, and collaborating with risk management on control assessments. Manage finance models and End User Computing for the finance department including required governance activities around these items. Ensure current process documentation for all accounting processes. Tax Oversight: Be the lead contact with service providers for providing all financial information for tax purposes. Coordinate the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual corporate and sales tax filings for multiple entities with the service provider by providing accurate financial information. Review quarterly tax provisions prepared by the service provider and ensure timely booking for multiple entities. Partner with Director, Finance Data & Transformation to ensure IT controls related to Finance systems are sufficient to maintain integrity. Partner with Director, Finance Data & Transformation on roll-out of new Finance System technology including identifying resources that can assist at agreed up timelines. Maintain, in connection with IT and Director, Finance Data & Transformation, adequate financial system and financial database. External & Internal Audit: Lead role in annual external audit process; acts as the main point of contact while ensuring timely completion of requests and the efficiency and effectiveness of the audit. Identify opportunities for efficiencies in the annual audit process. Coordinate external audit requests with contacts from various business groups throughout RFA. Take lead role on internal audit engagements, including educating them on processes and responding to their questions and requests. People Management: Partner with Human Resources to recruit, interview, and hire the most qualified candidates. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment by regularly communicating updates, setting clear goals, and providing constructive feedback and recognition. Champion a positive workplace culture through team events, coaching, and relationship-building, ensuring staff feel valued, supported, and motivated to achieve both individual and organizational success. What Youll Need to Succeed A Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. CPA License required. 5+ years of management and accounting experience, preferred with maintenance of the G/L and preparing financial statements. Competency in using Microsoft office products and/or other tools to capture and analyze data. Knowledge of regulatory reporting (OSFI, CDIC, BofC) is preferred. Power BI knowledge is preferred but not a must. Previous experience in public accounting is preferred, but not required.
