The Opportunity: McElhanney is seeking a highly experienced Senior Resident Engineering Representative (RER) to support the construction of a ~35km mining access road in rugged mountainous terrain in Northwest British Columbia. The road is comparable to Forest Service Road (FSR)style linear infrastructure and will require strong field judgment, practical engineering experience, and confident onsite leadership. This role is suited for a handson field professional with 10+ years of experience who is comfortable working in remote, campbased environments and making realtime engineering decisions in the field. Note: This role is not the Engineer of Record (EoR). The Senior RER will have authority to make minor geometry changes in the field and is expected to communicate changes to the broader project team. Significant deviations from the design must be reviewed with the Engineer of Record prior to implementation. Job Details: Location: Remote Project Site, Northwest British Columbia Rotation: 14 Days On / 12 Days Off (paid travel day on either side of rotation) Schedule: 12hour shifts (primarily day shift; infrequent night shifts as required) Season: July1 to October30. Annually for 34 years and could start as early as May in 2027 and beyond. Start Date: Anticipated June1, 2026 Key Responsibilities: Make minor field-fit geometry adjustments (horizontal and vertical alignment) to address constructability and site conditions Mark up IFC drawings to clearly document approved field changes Coordinate daily with contractors, inspectors, and site personnel Prepare daily reports, progress summaries, and quantity tracking Review and respond to RFIs and issue field instructions as required Identify, document, and manage nonconformances Interface with environmental and permitting team members as required Provide visible safety leadership, including completion of FieldLevel Risk Assessments (FLRAs) Hold contractors and site personnel accountable to safety and quality expectations Field Conditions & Safety: Remote, campbased project in mountainous terrain Safetysensitive, dry site (no drugs or alcohol permitted) Prehire and ongoing preaccess drug and alcohol testing required Must be physically fit and capable of working long hours in challenging terrain and weather conditions Qualifications & Experience: Minimum 10+ years of relevant field and construction experience P.Eng., P.Tech., or AScT Other professional accreditation may be considered based on experience Strong background in linear infrastructure, access roads, or similar resource projects Comfortable making field decisions with limited survey data when required Confident communicator with strong leadership presence Valid Class5 drivers license required Design & Technical Expectations: Perform fieldfit redesigns and geometry adjustments Mark up IFC drawings clearly and accurately No requirement to draft changes in AutoCAD or Civil3D office staff will translate markups Ability to work with incomplete or evolving information while maintaining design intent Employment Status: Seasonal contract position Open to independent contractors (daily rate to be negotiated) Travel, Camp & PPE: Camp accommodations and meals provided Travel arranged by McElhanney (Western Canada based candidates welcome) Steeltoed boots required (eligible for McElhanney boot allowance) All other PPE supplied by McElhanney Hourly Rate: The hourly rate for this position is $52.88 - $72.12 per hour.
