Job Description

Division: Special Projects ManagerOverview:A Site Superintendent is responsible for the field level execution of projects including supervision of all site activities, staff, and subcontractors.The special projects group delivers some of VEIs more complex projects where VEI is acting as prime contractor and/or delivery of multi-disciplinary, specialty construction, or new adjacent services.Responsibilities:Lead field operations for assigned projects including but not limited to:Ensure compliance to VEIs Health & Safety program for all personnel and subcontractors working on-site and lead on-site meeting, audits, and reporting.Assist with bid reviews providing input on sequencing and productivitiesAssist project managers with Project planning including mobilization, work plans, and safety documentation.Lead all on-site activities including direction of daily tasks, scheduling of personnel, equipment, & subcontractors, and coordination of materials & deliveries.Deliver projects in accordance with contract, specifications, plans, schedules, and drawings. Ensure compliance with quality control & documentation requirements.On-site lead client representative.Identify and resolve issues, defects, mistakes, and errors.Identify change of conditions to the project manager and support the change management process.Support overall operations management including but not limited to:Act as a senior resource to support shop and warehouse with inventory, material ordering, and project coordination.Advise the Operations Manager on improvements to VEIs health & safety program.Advise the Operations Manager on fleet and asset management including maintenance, repairs, disposal, and CAPEX/OPEX approvals.Lead assembly and fabrication of in-house specialized equipment or internal improvement projects.Assist with special initiatives including development of new technology development, process improvements, and new business line development.Assist other divisions (Remediation, Systems, Dewatering) with project delivery as required.Work at a variety of different Project sites across Canada.Hours can be long, between 10 to 12 per day based on project requirements.Train and mentor other field staff including supervision best practices and health & safety.Qualifications & Requirements:10+ years of experience as a construction superintendent with experience in the environmental remediation field preferred.Previous experience as a heavy equipment operator and/or mechanic is considered an assetPrevious experience with welding, fabrication, and fusing is considered an asset.Training certificates (i.e., Supervisor, First Aid, Working at Heights, Forklift) are an assetAbility to read and interpret technical drawingsWorks well independently and in teamPrioritize and complete tasks in a timely manneLearn more about VEI, our story and our talented and hardworking team.Check out our equipment, permits and health and safety policies.Receive monthly e-blasts with case studies, project breakdowns, articles by top professionals in the field and more!Established in 2003, VEI Contracting has grown to become one of the largest trusted environmental remediation and water management firms in Canada.
